So facebook charged a card other than my primary card and ended up overdrawing my bank account. Why didn't they charge my primary card?

What should I do? I emailed them...

I guess I'm hoping that they will pay for the charges or somehow cancel the transaction

Tell your bank that you never authorized them to charge that account. That should reverse the charge and the fees. Good luck getting Facebook to pay those fees.

Not speaking from experience, just knowledge of the fraud/chargeback system.

No don't don't do a "chargeback", facebook will either think that you stole a person's credit card info or that you're trying to rip them off. Both will result in a closed account and most likely a complaint to your ISP and law enforcement. Contact them and tell them about the mistake, if they don't pay it just write it off as a business expense on your taxes and remove the card from facebook's billing system.

A chargeback is such a pain in the ass, not just to the company billing them, but to the consumer too. My bank always makes me change my CC info, which I hate because then I have to memorize yet another set of numbers! Bah!

You obviously used the services, and they billed the wrong source. So either contact FB about it or call your bank and explain the situation... if it's even a big deal. If not, just let it go and keep making money.

chargeback is a nasty word in the world of internet anything...be careful with that one. I used to work in the accounting department for an online company and they can potentially put you in a blacklist which can be distributed to other companies...so careful

Thanks guys! I think i'll just contact them and hopefully work something out. If I can somehow just reverse the charges and put them on my other card instead it would be perfect and we would both be happy.

Your best bet is probably getting your bank to waive the overdraft fee. If this is your first one, they'll do it for you usually. Good luck getting FB to do *anything*.

Agreed, call up your banks support and let them know what happened - or file a complaint through their website. I have got SOOOOOO many deserved [out of my own stupidity] overdraft fees removed.

Worse come to worse make up a sob story. It works.

I suggest don't keep a card on there as a secondary that you wouldn't want facebook to charge if there are issues with your primary card. I have that happen every so often for no reason the charge on my primary card fails and they hit the back up card right away.

Yep that's what I'm doing now. Turns out my blue card got shut off because they thought facebook was somebody stealing my card. I guess because the charges were from somewhere out of town or irregular. That's why Facebook ended up charging my secondary card.

I called up AMEX and talked with some guy that I could barely understand. I thought I got everything figured out with that call. I was unsure the next day why my card wasn't back up and running so I called back again. I got somebody else and it turns out the other guy gave a notice that I needed to get a new account (because of the suspected fraud). Good news is they are overnighting me a new card and it should be here tomorrow. The lady I talked to the second time sounded pretty dumbfounded.

I hope that doesn't happen again! It is good to know though that AMEX does have such strong security.

It took me calling AMEX twice to get them to stop deactivating my card due to charges from facebook. A new account plus daily charges from facebook threw up tons of red flags.

I've also had an issue where my second card gets charged, and both my cards get deleted from FB's billing area and the next day the charges don't go through because there is nothing on record. Just gotta keep an eye on it.
