Yesterday I finally canned my adwords campaigns. My own metrics had proven conclusively that for every $1000 I was spending on it, I was making back sales of ... about $1000.

The final straw was I couldn't log in to my account with a Mac.

20 minutes after I canned the account I had Google on the phone, offering me free 'consultations', free metric tracking software, a shag with the Google secretary, ANYTHING if I'd only pretty please turn my account back on.

Er, fuck off.

For what I was spending on adwords, I can create and run a gazillion new autoblogs. Which overtook sales from adwords about a year ago. A lot of them on Google's very own blogger, too.

I tell ya guys, it feels *GOOD*

If you were only breaking even, shouldn't you have pulled the plug earlier? No reason to risk money to maybe just get it back with no profit. Maybe I'm understanding you incorrectly.

cool story bro pic

(this thread is so useless it's not even worth the time to find that pic. But it was worth my time to type out the reason I didn't want to waste time finding the pic, thus demonstrating the uselessness of this thread)

we let it run for a while longer than we probably should for a number of reasons including maintaining a profile (credibility issues) and we had a bunch of legacy systems that were flaky in the reporting side (f*cking ASP) so we kind of gave Google the benefit of the doubt. When it finally reached that break even point, not even I could find a reason to keep it on.

We're a Mac shop, and no one fancied trolling down to the nearest internet cafe just so we could check Google hadn't done one of their usual fuckups.

Anyway, that's not the point of the thread.

The point is that Google seemed concerned over loosing a lousy 6 fig adwords account. Times must be tough at the plex.

What's the approximate cost of all the shit they did to get you to stay? $5? So compare that to losing whatever you were spending. Not tough times, just basic math.

I'll add it all up when I finish the complimentary Vegas weekend they've given me so I can meet with some of their reps to discuss the 'issues'.

Were you counting lifetime value of a customer? If so then ya fuck them.

Nothing worse than working for Google, but not working for Google.

AdWords works fine on the Mac. I use the web interface all the time on my Mac w/Firefox, Chrome, and Safari - no issues. Their AdWords Editor software also works.

Seems like a PICNIC to me. Your loss, though.

What time period was this over, and how many thouands were you able to break even on. This sounds like a campaign that a decent ppc guy could turn to profit and scale.
