First Trans Fats, now Salts

Sounds like you're having difficulties wrapping your pea-sized brain around this issue.

1. Fast food (right now) is engineering to create an immediate endocrine and insulin chemical imbalance which in turn begins a cascading reaction that makes you hungrier than when you started eating it. There's a reason McDonald fries and burgers looks and taste so god damn good.

2. Much of the content - such as high starch, salt, sugar, transfats and preservatives are entirely unnecessary and are added in excess to increase the profit of whatever fast food outlet is serving them. And people wonder why there's an obesity epidemic in our country.

3. Outlawing cars is a very stupid example because cars are made to reduce the time taken to travel from one point to another. As a necessary evil, a certain risk factor accompanies it (one that is reduced every single day). However fast food preperations INCREASE the risk of taking otherwise benign substances.

I love china. THAT'S why I have that flag as my avatar. I was born and live in the us.

And NO you're not allowed to eat as much salt as you want because technically you're the property of the state.
Technically, the state is instituted by men. Individual rights come before the state.

But practically, you are correct. The state does not follow the rules so it can do whatever it wants.

However, what you are arguing for is slavery. I agree with you, the government exists to enslave people. Some people think it is good to enslave other people. Some people think slavery is freedom.

Unfortunately, most of human history has been dominated by forms of slavery. The American republic, for a brief period of time when it was first instituted, was the original social experiment in freedom.

And then its citizens spent the next 2 centuries trying to get back to slavery.

Humans. Go figure.

although I beg to differ. the real early settlers practiced religious and cultural intolerance: sure you're free to be a puritan but god dammit try and be catholic for 1 second and we'll see how far this pike can go up your...

You are forgetting one HUGE THING, and that is FREEDOM.

If YOU don't like fast food, then don't fucking eat it.

I personally like grabbing some french fries and a burger from Wendy's and I KNOW THE RISKS and am WILLINGLY eating the food because I WANT TOO and because I am free to chose that...

I don't eat fast food everyday, or even once a week, because I know that it is unhealthy. But what you are saying is retarded if you wish to live in a free society where you are treated as an individual.

I believe I should have to choice to do what I want as long as I am not infringing on others rights. If I want to eat fast food everyday, I should be completely free to do so, and be completely free to accept responsibility and suffer the consequences of my actions.

Even though fast food isn't healthy and like you said causes a shit load of problems, the choice for me to eat it shouldn't be taken away from me.

FUCK NANNY GOVERNMENT....

That's silly. If I saw a kid eating shit off the streets because "ISA FREE CUNTRY!" and I had the power to stop him/her damn straight I would. It's my duty as a human being to preserve the life of others around me....even if they don't want to preserve it for themselves.

This has nothing to do with individualism vs the conglomerate. It's a simple as putting a suicidal maniac in restraints.

Because chances are if you have kids you feed them the same shit that will cause them health problems 10-20 years down the road.

This thread is hilarious. Too much salt isn't bad for you? God damn some people are fucking retarded. OMG guys... the GOVERNMENT SAID IT.

Please don't have kids, assuming your high salt intake has left you potent enough for that to be possible.

Get banned moron.

Oh sure China is great now but why do you think you were even born Chinese (assuming) in the U.S.? Cuz your parents hopped on the boat for a better life and so they wouldnt starve only to give birth to yet another ungrateful swine plaguing our country with your presence.

Be thankful you were even given the opportunity to be a citizen of this country. Be thankful there's a lawyer between you and the FTC/Oprah/Google. Be thankful you found this forum. Be thankful for the freedoms you have or get your ass back to China.

It's my duty as a human being to preserve the life of others around me....even if they don't want to preserve it for themselves.

Nope this is not your job, this is natural selection's job.

This has nothing to do with individualism vs the conglomerate. It's a simple as putting a suicidal maniac in restraints.

We put suicidal maniacs in constraints because they may encroach on the freedom of others by harming them against their will, not because we care about the maniacs life.

Because chances are if you have kids you feed them the same shit that will cause them health problems 10-20 years down the road.

This is why education is important. We educate people about the risks associated with their choices, then they make their own decision about what to feed their kids. It is MY responsibility, not your responsibility, or the government's responsibility to keep me safe from fast food.

It IS my responsibility to make my own personal choices about what my family and I eat. The choices I make will effect my child, and because I am a good parent I do not feed them fast food everyday.

If you are stupid enough to feed your kids McDonalds everyday then you DESERVE the consequences of your actions. Again natural selection at work here...

There was a big anti-salt campaign in the UK a couple of years back. They used billboards, TV advertising and newspapers and it must have cost a bomb. So I steadily reduced the salt intake, following the Gov's guidelines, and then one night I was in agony with cramps. And the cramps kept on coming ... until I added salt back into my diet. So it's not a one-size-fits-all piece of advice.

Turbolapp made a good point - processed food is full of crap like MSG so we should follow guerilla's New Year resolution to reduce the processed food as much as is practical.

On the other point: the government is the servant of the people, not the other way around, and they have a duty to speak-up if they think they have some good advice to give. Whether they have the right to slap anti-salt orders on businesses is another matter. Here in Europe they are about to ban vitamins from being sold above certain amounts cheeky bar-stewards! The EU is a bit of a social democrat federation anyway :(

uhhhh I think cakes basically just said that salt was bad for you. reading comprehension not a strong point?

High salt intake can be bad, but do we really need more and more government regulation? Read the label, and see the salt content. Does it exceed what you need in a day? Don't eat it.

Or maybe, cook for yourselves instead of going to eat, and use non-cured meats and non-canned vegetables

now i look foolish.

papa, i was supporting nicky. it came off wrong now that i read it

If you have a problem with how much salt is on food, make it yourself.

They're trying to regulate things to people who have the option of making it at home with as much or as little salt as they want............All at the expense of our tax dollars.

It's my duty as a human being to [make choices for people]....even if they don't want [me to].

What you refer to as your "duty" is commonly known as slavery or fascism. When you put your ideals into practice, you get a totalitarian state without any respect for human rights (such as China) as a result. If you somehow became politically powerful enough to put your ideals into practice, anyone would be justified in blowing your brains out with a shotgun. Good thing you're just a dumbass trolling the internet.

Bloomberg is an idiot when it comes to certain things. The guy eats unhealthily, and puts salt on everything, yet tells the public otherwise. I respect the guy for a lot, but not for stuff like this...

Ok kids lets chill for a moment.

I support this stuff here is why:

As a libertarian it would be completely wrong of me to say many people are too stupid to figure out what is bad for them so someone else needs to do it for them. BAD LIBERTARIAN BAD!

So how about this? As a well educated, somewhat highly intelligent individual with a ooooh LIFE (2 kids, a fulltime business, a husband...etc) I don't have time to read up on every single food label before I purchase something (which by the way are meant to be confusing so that even a well educated, well informed person has trouble with them sometimes)

So for the sake of time, practicality and wanting to poke my eyes out from the mundanity (yes I just made up that word) of it all...I welcome this legislation.

Edit AND you've still got your salt shaker if you want more salt ADD IT. If big government tries to take your salt shakers away well then that would be a travesty of justice right there.

FUCK NANNY GOVERNMENT....

I think it's hilarious that there is so much debate on this.

AMERICANS NEED TO BE TOLD OBVIOUS THINGS, ALL THE TIME.

Not all Americans, but a great many of you. Remember, you live in a country where people sue mcdonalds for having coffee that is too hot, or food that is too fatty. and they WIN these lawsuits!

people claim ignorance for their own benefit EVERY FUCKING DAY.

it's not that anyone is stupid, it's just easier to blame someone else. personally i applaud the government for trying to drill this obvious info into our heads, maybe it'll keep these fucking ridiculous lawsuits from clogging up the legal system.

wait, who am i kidding.
