Since Adobe bought Macromedia, it seems like they've been pushing Flash a lot harder. With Flash 9 out, and more developer software on the horizon, do you think that Flash has much room to grow?

I personally am not a huge Flash fan just because of the SEO issues it brings up. With Google learning to read content out of Flash, more web applications being developed in Flash, and high-speed internet gaining more and more popularity... I think Flash is posed to take a big leap in terms of being used on more websites.

The only thing left to issue is the accessibility. Off the top of my head, I'd say 85 to 90 percent of web browsers have the ability to view Flash. I wouldn't want to cut 10 to 15% of my users off from any section of my site, so I'll be hard pressed to use Flash for anything other than ads for the time being. Maybe if Adobe teamed with Microsoft and got Flash Player bundled with Windows Vista, they could take care of this issue as well.

It's cool for graphic oriented sites like a designer's portfolio or a photographer's website.

It's annoying when it gets in the way of the content you're trying to access like a splash page or a really long intro.

So it has its uses, and definitely people like more dynamic and exciting content which is what the flash platform can provide

I think Flash has a bright future, It's most effective on websites that are known very well for a certain purpose in my opinnion. For example a lot of game developers use Flash for video game websites because not only does it look great, they're always going to be viewed so search engine wise it doesn't really matter since they're always up with the top anyway.

Flash is only good for videos, and games.

Anything else is stupid.

But, sadly, I think that people are going to start over-using it again once it gets more SE-friendly.

Flash was already a big hit a few years ago, but it was ahead of its time as the loading times were just too long.

Now, however, when almost 3/4 of U.S. homes have broadband connection, should be a good time for its revival.

A little off topic, but used to enjoy designing in flash. The interface was fun aas were the results.

Stopped when I started learning about search engine optimisation

Same here, I toyed around with it a bit for a while and really got some cool animations going. But like you, that was all promptly ended when I discovered SEO.
