I'm working on a similar site but with images. If you don't want a scratch built app, you can use WordPress › TDO Mini Forms WordPress Plugins to allow end users to post content or upload images and then hack one of the iphone/mobile format themes which are already simplified.

I haven't figured out end user moderation though. I'll probably have to code a custom page for that.
