Many of you watch my first video about monetizing facebook apps after John Chow and Andrew Wee blogged about them. That vid was made back in Oct/Nov, thing have changed a little since then but not too much.

I made a follow up video last Monday that goes into more detail.
(warning: it is not nearly as entertaining as the first, but I feel it is informative none the less)

Part One:
YouTube - Monetize Facebook Apps With $uper Rewards - Jason Bailey - 1

Part Two:

10 minutes each.

The formula is pretty simple.

A) Build app where people need points. Think about ANY Gambling or betting related game.

B) Implement a system whereby people can earn additional points by completing CPA offers. We have an all in one solution that manages 95% of the work for you, but you can always hand roll it if you are a masochist.
$uper Rewards - Monetize Your App | Facebook

C) PROFIT!!!

Here are some apps that are really smart and addictive that are doing very well by this system.

It isn't hard to hire some Indians or Russians to build you an app that does what you want for a grand or two. Think Craps, Slot machine, Sollitare, or any sort of racing/battling type game.

Scratch and Win
Scratch and Win | Facebook

Hockey Pool
Hockey Pool Pro | Facebook

Petrol Heads
PetrolHead | Facebook

And about a million others... A good app built right makes between $5-$50 Per 1000 DAU per day. It's a good gig.

Check out the videos, check out the apps, check out $uper Rewards and hit me up if you want me to look at your app.

Any suggestion where to find someone to outsource to?
Freelance site? (Never freelanced a coding job before)

Rent-A-coder has always worked for me. But their are quite of few other similar sites. I am sure a search here at wicked fire would turn something up too, i am sure this topic has been covered here at some point.

As an amateur developer, this sounds somewhat interesting. Will check out "$uper Rewards". (The dollar sign is cheesy, btw, ChickenHole.)

Thanks for starting this thread to get back with the program. I think it's a good idea to increase awareness in development of these social apps - regardless of who we um... target.

The reason for the $$$ is not the cheese factor.
Facebook sorts their app lists by ASCII alpha - The $ is one of the first characters in the ASCII chart - so the cheesiness gets us sorted to the top of ones app list. In a sea of 10000+ apps, this is helpful.

Chicken butt hole take your breast cancer profiteering elsewhere.
The Breast Cancer Toolbar was not my application, but thanks for learning to read and listen, makes you come off quite smart. f00kin twat...

Nice tip, good to keep in mind :D

Since I haven't actually created a Facebook app or even used any Facebook apps, I didn't realize that the primary interface for adding apps was alphabetically.

Reminds me of phone book listings. A lot of companies come up with an alias that starts with A for the same reason. "AAA Heating and Cooling" etc.

Hey Chickenhole,

Just wondering how it works by users gaining points by completing cpa offers? Is it all automatic? and will only certain offers do it?

Go ahead and make your money now, because this won't be around in another 6 months or so. The traffic won't convert at all for advertisers, and they'll pull their offers or forbid facebook traffic because of the dismal conversion rate.

Also, another thought.... Before networks ban facebook traffic, facebook users will probably have already gotten fed up with the amount of spam applications out there.

Andrew Wee wrote last week about the obsurd amount of 'requests' he gets on a daily basis. This is will probably get worse before it gets better, but facebook will put more control around which apps get published in light of users getting fed up with bogus apps.

Crappy apps won't be popular, won't go viral, and won't be used much. You can't make any money with this type of app so that's the end of that. There isn't much of a reason for Facebook to tighten the requirements to publish an app ... if someone is getting a lot of requests to join an app that means it's a popular app and a lot of people like it. Maybe a few more elaborate filters to tell the system what kind of invites you want to get (only from certain people or groups of people, etc.)

The lead quality is always an issue, and yeah, overall my experience is that lead quality from Facebook or any other social site flat out SUCKS. You would think that with the volume of leads some of these apps are generating the advertisers would already be keeping a close eye on this, so maybe some offers do OK .... ?

I don't know ... affiliates have been throwing shit traffic at zip submits for years and there are plenty of them still around, and new ones popping up every day. Obviously the "merchants" know what they are doing when it comes to monetizing the users. I know lots of offers that run on relatively thin margins (ie 20%) but make huge money on volume.

FYI, I am working with Chickenhole on recruiting new and existing application developers into the system.

I've been playing games since the days of the Apple ][e, then through dial-up BBSes, text-based MUDs and Mushes, MMPOGs, and most recently FB games (like DoTA, Triumph, Warbook).

So if you need help with monetizing your app or want to get started, you might like to check out the details I've just posted at:
Facebook Monetization $uper Rewards launches

And the techies among you might like to check out the developer discussion threads at:
Facebook Platform Developer Forum / $uper Rewards v0.9.1 released - Monetize your Points/Rewards based App
Facebook Platform Developer Forum / $uper Rewards version 1.0.3 released - $$$ from your points based app

I think if you can prog your own PHP apps, it should not be difficult to create your own FB app and monetize to the tune of $3,000 - $5,000 a month fairly easily (even with a "crappy" app).

-
So is this a fad?
Maybe, but even if the Facebook platform flames up and burns out in the next 12-18 months, it's just a matter of moving your app to the next social network with an API, whether it's LinkedIn or an up-and-coming network.

Apps on the social network are the next wave and as long as your design is airtight, and get people hooked on it like crack, you should have a loyal fanbase and generate some decent income from it...

Drop me a PM here or on my FB profile if you want some help.

-
For the app dev side of things, as long as you get a decent PHP programmer who's able to work with the FB APIs, I don't think it's rocket science...
