I have launched my forum recently. Now I would like to discuss with you the most effective forum promotion methods! What advices could you provide on forum policy and rules? What restrictions should I apply for a forum at the first stages? Any other advices and recommendations on how to promote a forum effectively are welcome! Thanks in advance!

I think a lot of it depends on what type of forum it is. What's the niche? I think giving away free stuff can help a site grow, obviously you'll have people there only for the giveaway, but it still can work. It definitely helps if you're already getting a lot of traffic before you setup a forum.

If it's weight loss, than have drawings for weight loss products.
If it's for political discussion, then it's a waste of your time.

Giving out prizes usually brings the quickest traffic. Make a rule such as for every post they make, they receive a point. They can then cash in the points for prizes. If you have a decent budget for prizes, then you should select luxurious ones; such as Apple iPods.

For an Apple iPod; they would need 750 points. Which is a pretty decent amount of posts ~ 750 posts. You will just have to look out for spam and delete it.

I'd think you'd want to be careful with that one.
You'd end up with the sort of problems that Gaia Online has, where people quote a quote of a quote of a quote of a quote, and then say "yeah", and get credited for a really long post.

You'd have to have some sort of feature that requires a minimum amount of characters that are outside of quotes, and not actually tell people the definite rule, but rather something like "every post that contributes positively receives a point"
Point systems on forums are hard to get right. I remember trying to mod one on a phpBB2 forum ages ago.

You see, I have managed to attract some ammounts of traffic but not all website visitors begin registering at the forum! Actually, it is not a problem for me to attract website visitors, I am just looking for advices on how to convert website visitors into registered users!

3 tips on fora:

1st. Move your most interesting subforum to the top. Clicks will triple.
2nd. Give a prize. Make the rules vague, and totally up to you. Do give out the prize.
3rd. Fora are a pain in the ass, unless you find good moderators. Be warned.
