yea i don't know anything about harlequin ichthyosis, but there is a disease that is similar called laminar ichthyosis. Basically what happens is you don't have anything anchoring your skin to a basement membrane below, so the skin slides around everywhere and you end up with crazy blistering (probably why the eyes look like that) as well as skin shedding off in sheets.
The people that survive have to constantly coat themselves in lotion, but they all end up dying in their teens i'm pretty sure. Messed up birth defect.

Hey, I know this place is pretty light hearted but making a joke out of this is wrong on so many levels in my opinion. How anyone could feel anything but pity for that child and his/her family is completely unfathomable to me.

I have kids myself and one of our kids almost didn't make it since he was born at 24 weeks (vs. the normal 40). For 4 months straight we didn't know if he was going to survive from one day to another. He was VERY fortunate though, and is a healthy 9-year old today.
