Free Tracking Software

Yeah I saw that yesterday. It's a step in the right direction but I still don't see a clear business model in place to monetize it. I'm sure they have one and they don't want to let it out just yet I guess but without saying how they will monetize it you have to wonder why they would go through all that trouble to build, test, release it.

Do they plan on adding more features and charging for that later one? Do they want to ger network referrals from people who sign up for new networks somehow through their software? All they say on the site is "Monetization will continue to be through selling ads from traffic received." That doesn't say all that much and I can't see how it could be profitable anytime soon if that's the only way they plan on banking off it. I think they will try to sell other services off of it probably as well as an upgraded version maybe once they get the name out there but if they explained this well right from the start I think at least some people would feel a little safer using it.

Looks like a step in the right direction. Maybe more people will start using it now that they don't have to worry about their keywords being stolen. I'm going to give it a shot for sure now.

Wayne, my feeling on this is that since tracking202 basically got shunned they had to figure out something to do with their software so they are giving it away for free. Maybe the thinking behind this is if they offer some great software for free they will build up some trust with the users and then offer some sort of paid upgrade.

I know they have a bunch of people on tracking202 already but they want the masses so they did do an awesome job of listening to feedback and coming out with a free self-hosted version pretty quickly. I played with it this weekend and it's a damn good tracking solution.

Im probably going to install it today and give it a go.

I have always used SEO to get traffic. Seems like you guys are seasoned in getting traffic through PPC. Its something I am thinking of doing. I would like to use PPC to drive converting traffic to affiliate programs. Where would be a good place to start learning?? (any good websites, ebooks <-- free please :))

You are already on one of the best places to learn how to do it. A few blogs might give you some tips as well. Just a few of the many that I keep an eye on are:

CDF Networks
Uber Affiliate
Cash Tactics

I think I'll give this a try tomorrow, looks good. They have a "Donate" button makes that's their money maker. ;)

I'm already using it for one of my campaigns and it works great. I think Wes (developer) is planning to integrate various APIs into it to load your campaign data, etc. It's already a very quick way to start running PPC analytics if you aren't already.

I read this post awhile back: Track Your PPC Campaigns In-House | NickyCakes.com

but haven't given P202 a try (yet). T202 is still available for those who can't/don't want to host it themselves.

I have a question. I'm a newb, and suck at analyzing and tracking my campaigns. Would P202 spoil me? Should I learn the raw tracking stuff first, before delegating all of that to something like P202?

Has someone sniffed outgoing packets yet to check to make sure they aren't just relaying your keywords/conversions rates, etc. back to their storage for their own use? I mean, the script is encrypted, so its not truly like they are really releasing some open source kick ass tool.

I was just looking at prosper202, has anyone started using it yet? I've never used any tracking system before. I've read some posts about tracking system to be a bid risky because its like using another person's software to look at your own secret informations (trade secrets). Any sort of comments would be great.

for the 1 billionth time....prosper202 is self hosted

Just go through it with Firebug or HTTPLiveHeaders in firefox. Watch all the URLs it hits.

It is awesome. The only pain is you need to upload the subid every time by yourself. So I would call it an analyzing center rather than a tracking tool.

you make it sound like you have to type the subids one by one. Just download a few days worth of report from your aff network and bulk upload it. Takes 2 minutes.
