Had a co-worker who ran a web design company, well he also hosted clients using hostgator's reseller hosting. Over the last few years there has been downtime, DNS issues, email issues, database issues, speed issues, even had downtime on his particular box for a week. And the issues seemed to get worse as time went on.

I personally never went with hostgator, my own nightmare host at the time was dreamhost. And course based on past experiences with shared hosting (not as bad as the two I mentioned above) I would be very very uncomfortable hosting even just myself on anything less than a VPS.
 
although i wouldnt use ANY shared hosting for campaigns im sending paid traffic too, hostgator is good if you need to host blogs or organic sites. Ive never had problems with them.
 
Yea - turns out too many people oh-so-intelligently :confused: called and asked about the coupon - Of course, between that and the ton of sign ups it was used up real quick.

I still have a dedi box, but was considering this, since I'm currently totally under utilizing that box and would like to save some $.
 
Hostgator couldn't pay me to host anything with them. Seriously. Get a dedicated server, even if it's someone's sloppy seconds (you can get those pretty damn cheap, btw).

You can get a dedicated down to 35$ a month, but then we're also talking bout no control panel, no one to set it up for you (they put the OS + typical webserver software on), and on a processor thats the equivalent of a Pentium 4. Unless you got some pretty specialized software needs, you're better off with a VPS at that price point.
