Some excerpts taken from their updated guidelines:

I’ve read that bloggers who don’t comply with the Guides can be fined $11,000? Is that true?
No. The press reports that said that were wrong. There is no fine for not complying with an FTC guide.
Are you monitoring bloggers?
We’re not monitoring bloggers and we have no plans to. If concerns about possible violations of the FTC Act come to our attention, we’ll evaluate them case by case. If law enforcement becomes necessary, our focus will be advertisers, not endorsers – just as it’s always been.

Seems like the FTC isn't as hardcore on affiliates as everybody previously believed. So back to the Miami Gazette News and Mary's Diet Blogs with no disclosures on the bottom or what?

Disclosures are for pussies. Besides, if the FTC is going to come after you, the tiny text (that seamlessly blends in with the background of your page) isn't going to help much.

^ pretty much, but then again if you know your walking over the line a bit it doesn't hurt to have some sort of policy. Better yet don't draw to much attention to yourself and if your doing some really shady shit get in and get out.

When they say bloggers they don't mean floggers. It may come as a shock but they can tell the difference.

Flogs are probably safe too. I don't think the FTC is coming after you unless you're REAL big. I see "flogs" running in huge circulation magazines (National Enquirer, Woman's World, etc..) all the time. Those are probably the guys the FTC targets before anyone else.

Fuck the FTC. They make these kind of vague rules for a reason. So if your slingin some real low shit like acai in enough volume, they can kick your ass.

I think you guys are forgetting about others rules that isn't in this new guideline. It's still false advertising if you claim acai and colon cleanse made you lose 20 pounds in 1 week when the two products have nothing to do with weight loss.

not sure if serious

Good info, thanks for the update.

FTC will likely have a lot of revisions over the short term.
