Fuck It - I bought a motorcycle

I'm not sure where u live but if it's hot you're gunna HATE that full mask very quickly. Sweet fucking bikeman congratz. The MSF classes are a breeze, you'll be burnin rubber in no time!

That is a very badass bike. Wouldn't be my first choice for a starter, but you can't let that stop you.

The two Proficient Motorcycling books are the best written resources for bikers available. I got hold of them nearly twenty years after I started writing, and still found insight and information worth digesting. I have mixed feelings about MSF courses. The forum at MSGroup is arguably the best and most useful discussion group for everything from safety to technique to maintenance tips, as well as ride guides (and meetups) all over the country.

Side note: ride the goddamned thing. I sold my bike a few months ago, because I never get a chance to ride it between work and family concerns, and every time I walked past it in the garage I had to fight the urge to kick it over. A motorcycle stirs your passion; having one you only occasionally ride is like having an affair with your wife's sister -- you see it all the time, but never get to jump on and have some fun, and after a while the aggravation does funny things to you. So, you know, ride it.

Dude, this bike is awesome. +rep.

Here it is bros, completed:

holy shit. that's one sick bike.
what about the seat? looks like it would hurt like hell after a couple miles.

Not sure why you would make your first bike a custom ride, but to each his own.

My first thoughts when seeing the pics are why the hell is the back tire so small, you got a hard tail with an uncomfortable seat, the reach and line to the handle bars looks like it could be very uncomfortable as well (though that is something that could only be determined in person), and be careful not to take a sharp bend too fast or you're going to catch a peg and wish you had never stepped on a bike.

Yes I have ridden and owned a few bikes and have never been in an accident.

Aside from that good luck bro.

Fuck, I wish I could contribute more to the money threads this board is all about, but since I'm not there yet I'll post about something Ive had success with. Owning and riding motorcycles for 20yrs+ and living to talk about it. First off congrats on makin that decision man, motorcycles are great. And it looks like you picked a nice one.

Lots of good advice in here on riding. I'll just reiterate the good advice so you get the point and stay alive.

Number one rule: Ride defensively! Ride like your invisible and keep your eyes open. I mean it fucker. Don't expect people to see you because some just wont until they are right o top of you. And it only takes one stupid/old/texting dipshit that swerves or brakes without seeing you to end you.

Always wear pants, heavy shoes, and a helmet. The guy that mentioned you can get fucked up even from dumping the bike at slow speeds is right on. I've got knees and elbows full of scar tissue to prove it.

The dude that mentioned that you maybe should have bought a different starter bike has a point as well. If your going to buy a bike like that, and I assume that motors no joke, you better fucking RESPECT what that bike is capable of and not capable of. Like the sheer power it will have and the agility it wont. Ive had a harley for the last 10yrs or so and nothing but sport bikes before that and I can say with certainty that cruisers are way more powerful than agile. And bullet bikes balance the power with the ability to control it

Good luck man.

Don't be a pussy and ride it like you stole it. Enjoy it

This is the real reason to own a bike. I live in LA, if I didnt ride like a madman Id be a dead fucker. Have fun with it.

Fuck the nay-sayers! That's the shit right there! You could almost get away w/ a boob icon with those images. Oh man, I need a kleenex...

I hear you man. I wouldn't have bought this bike if I couldn't afford to fix it if I damage it. So I knew that going in, it won't be a big deal if I drop it (as long as I don't hurt myself lol)

I have the MSF course tomorrow, should be interesting. Thank you all for the comments/tips/etc.

I finished the MSF course yesterday. Was pretty easy, only thing I got docked points on was the god damn u-turn, so I got -5pts. Then got 100% on the written exam, which a monkey could take. All in all, learned a lot in the class, looking forward to getting my bike next week.

Little bit of back brake, a few extra revs, and the bike will do a u-turn easy, at crazy slow speeds.

Damn, wish they would have said something about a little bit of back brake. I basically used the clutch a little and I think I went too slow, just hit over the line a little on each side. They honestly don't give you many tips during the class, its almost like you either figure shit out or you don't. lol

Some MSF instructors are awesome, some just suck. When you apply some back brake, you'll hear the engine start to cut out, just give it enough revs to keep it going. Using your clutch is going to fail, because it's harder to get a steady amount of power out of the bike. With a bit of back brake, you can keep a bike at walking pace pretty easily.

my gf just got a motorcycle.. riding on the back is so fun

You sir are in violation of several man laws - the most important of which being never say something that makes you sound like a bitch

At OP: Sweet ride. Dont know about the tires/rims though, but thats just personal taste. Stay safe bro, and yes ... ride like you are expecting everyone to not see you - will greatly increase chances of survival ;)
