So guys, I am really pissed off right now. My blog got around 150,000 visitors today from social sites and fucking lunarpages SUSPENDED my account, without any warning ofcourse. I am on a shared hosting plan right now, My content is going viral on social sites like Digg, reddit etc and on the other hand my site is totally down. Can't even shift it to different host, They are not even letting me login. I'll handle them through my social-media-bombing way, Please ask your family, friends and colleagues to stay away from Lunarpages.

Different host , point nameservers to there for now?

But shit sucks man. Did you do anything shady on that particular account before?

LoL, I remember a few years back dreamhost launched a campaign noting Lunarpage's practices and offering lunarpages customers to switch to dreamhost with a coupon code making their first year with DH free.

PS: Don't use shared hosting for sites you expect to get heavily visited, its written into most TOS that they can suspend you without warning for overuse or causing higher loads.

lol shared hosting
shared hosting lol

No site backups, no external dns... Of course you can't move your site!

Well no shit. You really think their oversold shared server is setup to handle 150k visitors in under 24 hours, let alone from one client? Hell no. I bet you were running a wordpress site with no caching too?

Rofl you are retared for trying to get social explosion traffic on shared hosting. You're basically DDOSing them of course they shut you down.

People still use shared hosting?

I use it on some... expendable sites.

Now days I can't live without at the very least a VPS, my personal one on ZenSix, with no control panel, and for folks I manage on knownhost for those who can't live without cpanel.

But least any lil thing I put on shared hosting, I had no illusion that anything could shut it down, hell all it takes is some idiot to install phpNuke or something other exploitable on the same server as yourself for them to bring the whole server down til they figure out who uploaded what, in the mean time everyone is down. And if you get dDOS, your host treats you as an offender and not a victim.

^^^^^^^^^^^ This. Welcome to the interwebz bro. Also, if you kept back ups of the site, and had the domain through something other then your host (basic common sense) then this would not be a problem, exept for a max of 48 hour downtime while DNS propagates.

P.S./unrealated You are the typical customer from hell with a bug up your butt. You sign up, click on the little thing that reads: "I have read and agreed to the terms and conditions" Without ever having read the T&Cs. Then you violate the T&Cs. Then the company has to enforce their T&Cs and you throw a fucking shit fit. Plus, you are going to start a smear campaign because you have no common sence. Even if it isn't SPECIFICALLY spelled out, it is common fucking sense that you can't do what you did.

seriously? I guess it depends on what you mean by cheap, you mean like 35$ peice of shit dedi from serverpronto, or something like 250$-300$ from softlayer? But 150K isn't *that* much if you setup your server and site correctly.
Yeah one of those pos servers for $50 month with 512 ram. A server in the 300/mo range would easily handle that kind of traffic.

A well configured server/site with only 512MB of RAM would probably still be able to handle 150k visits in a day - especially a static site. Move to a VPS - especially a VPS solution that can easily scale at the touch of a button (most "cloud" server offerings can do this). Just moving my main site over to a Cloud Server at Rackspace Cloud - can scale it to 15x the resources if I need
for a short period of time, and then back down when I don't need the resources anymore.

150k visits on shared hosting, though? I would have been surprised if they didn't suspend your hosting.

I bet my 768MB (29.95/month) VPS with ZenSix could probably handle it, course I don't have a control panel or anything like that on it, just nginx + php + mysql, only using up about 256MB of the 768MB. Course its more a matter of how quickly will I run thru the 700 GB traffic allocation.
