Gas prices really suck!

I put some Acetone in my Volvo's tank and got +3 mpg. 2oz per 10 gallons. You can get a gallon of it for 6 bucks at Wal Mart. Just don't get it on your paint.

Apparently, you can get a lot better improvements on older cars.

Some people online talk the idea down, but there seems to be a lot of testing/ research behind it.

Use at your own risk.

This site provides good info (not mine):

I spend over $150 a month on gas. Suck it up biotches...

Thats pennies bitch. I used to spend 100 a week... that was when gas was 3 dollars a gallon. Here in Thailand, prices are around 4-5 dollars a gallon. Lots of people use natural gas though, which effectively cuts that in half.

I use public transportation though. A trip on the skytrain anywhere I want is only 50 cents (covers about 20 km, or anywhere I care to go in the city). Taxis are only about 3 bucks for 10 kilos. Buses to anywhere are less than a dollar. Motorcycles cost less than a buck to get to a nice place to eat (Burger King). I love how my main expenditure is the food I buy at convenience stores and gas pumps.

Fuck America!

Even though the prices are f*cking expensive in UK, I am spending around $110 per month. I only drive in the weekends, and use public transport in the weekdays. BUT my transport fares cost me $330 per month!

I hauled my Jeep up to North Carolina and back from Florida last week. 8 MPG diesel @ ~$4.30 = almost $1,000 round trip. Total driving time was less than 20hrs.

If my recreation wasn't rock crawling (gotta go out of state for it), I wouldn't drive an F-250.

One good thing that might come out of the recent pain at the pumps is the increased use of alternative fuels. I'm not talking about the scam that is ethanol, I'm talking about algae and microbe-based biodiesel. Hopefully, this reaches economies of scale that would finally bring about a permanent end to our addiction to fossil fuel. Microbe-based biodiesel also helps eliminate sewage and human waste.

I may be forced to start driving my Paxton Phoenix again

I basically spend one day at work to pay for my gas for the month to get to and from work.

Acetone in the tank also works well, but for true benefits you have to find gas that is NOT oxygenated (10% ethanol).

Someone sent me this the other day... don't know if they are true:

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we
are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum
for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth
for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4
million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next
day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks
here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground
temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage
tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when
it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the
evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the
specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol
and other petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service
stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If
you look you will see that the trigger has three (3)stages: low, middle, and high.
In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that
are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If
you are pumping on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes
vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank
so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF
EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air
occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline
storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance
between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service
stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so
that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when
you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred up
as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some f the dirt that normally
settles on the bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.

DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS!

Instead of complaining, you guys should have bought some energy investments. I bought a good chunk when it was around $55. Did anyone not think it was going to go up? That's the biggest no-brainer investment I have ever done.

Well here in Canada it's gonna go up to $1.50/litre by summer

Right now its around the 1.20-1.35$/litre

Yeah, you don't want to go bitching too heavily about gas prices here in the U.S. in the presence of the rest of the world (international WF members). I spent 8 years in Germany and the Europeans have been spending 2 or 3 times what we do for gas. It's going up like crazy and you don't hear them bitchin'. Us Americans have been spoiled with our gas prices.

I think hydrogen cars are a pipedream. Fuel cells are fuckin' wicked pricey still.

For me, I think the best bet is an electric car. I think one of the big manufacturers like Lexus or someone has a car that will go 250 mph, has over 250hp and costs about a penny a mile. Of course, the first ones will be priced such that if you can afford it, you ain't worried about gas prices. Chevy Volt looks good. Hell, I would kill to have a Prius right now. 50+mpg. :)

Ok, I'm done!

Except if you compare the price increase between both places, you'll see that Americans saw an increase of more than 100%, whereas in Germany for example gas was .97€ in '02 and is roughly 1.45€ these days. Granted, it's more, but no one is going to stop complaining just because others have it worse.
