I should note that i worked on my day job times for some companies dealing with server centers and bigger companies. The "website slow? Lets buy a bigger system" is there common.
The fun part starts when the saturation point comes and you have to explain them that on this road the server cost will double from now every 4-6 month.
And then you have to change a system which had follows half a century the "buy a bigger server" mantra... Thats not the big fun.

Hope this doesn't mean your loosing hope and dropping out? Seems to me, your a much more progressive thinker than those guys over at Geckoboard and could do some really cool things with this project.
The project has been moving forward rapidly. I haven't done updates, since it's mostly making things faster and smoother on the backend. Tightening up the code, and giving it a clean UI is the first and foremost requirement in order to have the best user experience.
I was just talking to several people in skype about this. Geckoboard has to step up it's game, cause they have seen I was coming for them.

How are the sizes of the widgets chosen? Or are the predefined depending on what service it's displaying?
They are incremented by 240 pixels. You will be able to customize them according to the plugin, but each plugin has a default setting accordingly.
We used Librato Metrics at a prior job and I thought it was good for this task. Very configurable and versatile system.
