Get a Kindle or Ebook Reader!

Actually, an ebook is not like a computer screen.

The strain from a computer screen comes mainly from the fact that it glows - you are, in effect staring at a lamp.

An e-ink display does not glow on it's own, you need light to read it.

I'M A BELIEVER NOW

i like it but has anyone else noticed that the kindle ebooks on amazon site are the same (if not more) in price as the physical thing? Feels like a rip-off

Just held a Nook Color last night

The only reason I want a Nook Color right now is so I can root it and put Android Honeycomb on it.

I like to use a highlighter on my books, can I do that with a Kindle?

As roclafamilia says you can underline and you can also add margin notes. All of which can be searched through.

I forgot, it also has a dictionary built in so when you're reading something with big words and not too many pictures, move the cursor to the word and it gives you a definition! :D

If you're make 6 figs a year, I don't see why you would torrent books of all things. Just saying... all my books on my kindle are legitimately bought. But each to his own.

its not about what you make, but what you keep.

no matter what you make, if you can get some for free or cheap there is no reason to not do it.

until people are punished for torrenting more then they are now, it will keep going on. I do it and I feel no shame

It varies I have a feeling it's not something amazon controls but the publisher.

I know that the day I officially feel in love with Kindle was the day that the last book in a series finally came out (we fans had been waiting a freakin year and half for it) and I had pre ordered it for 9.99 (hardback was selling for 23.00) and it was delievered to my kindle at midnight on the release date.

Pure. Fucking. Win.

I actually do feel a little bit of shame when it comes to thinking about the authors. But then I think they've got them selves set up on a stupid system and one day they'll get smart and go straight to publishing with the companies that run the kindles and the nooks and then it won't matter to them if people are torrenting their stuff.

I read a few books per week and many of them end up not being worth the electricity used to download them. When I find a good book that I will reread, or even highlight/jot down notes inside of, I will go buy a physical copy. For example, I came across Ayn Rand's works via torrenting for my first kindle a few years ago, and now own a physical copy of every one of her works.

pros:

convenient for reading novels
remembers pages
can download/convert pdfs etc

cons:

buying the books legit is expensive
cannot sell/give away book when finished
no good for technical/reference (imo)
cheap build quality
looks rubbish

I have little doubt that someone will create a much cheaper kindle clone that will accept pdfs etc, probably is one now. The Kindle really should be much much cheaper imo, it costs them little to make and the profit they gneerate from the books is immense.

No doubt that's why people keep trying to read ebooks on iPads and other slates. I remember one indian slate, I think an old version of the Archos tablet, claimed to have a single screen that could switch between e-Ink and regular ink. Man that would be the bomb.

Saw this browsing tablets on Amazon last night:

Amazon.com: POCKET EDGE 7.0" Black Dualbook: Computer & Accessories

Nice idea, but I'm going to wait and try out one of the Honeycomb tablets when they hit the market, but will probably get the wife a Kindle in the near future.

This is exactly what I was talking about. Once more Authors catch on they'll be banking. Publishers will become obsolete. This 27-Year-Old Is Making Millions Cutting Out Traditional Publishers With Amazon Kindle

This is an old thread but I don't give a FUCK. I just got myself a kobo, which is like the no frills, stripped down version of Kindle.

450px-Kobo-eReader_black-model.jpg

They only sell the kobo in Canadian bookstores (chapters and Indigo) so it was somewhat of an impulse buy but I don't regret it - I bring it EVERYWHERE.

In the washroom, in the strip club, waiting in line for driver license renewal, on the train etc.

Get an ebook reader. Replace your dirty ass books. You'll free up space and save the "environment".

Phew... the Kobo and Sony readers Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

I'd rather read off a freaking clay tablet.

Do yourself a huge favor and pick up a real reader: The Kindle.

You'll thank me later.
