Okey the piece off shit that I have at the moment has done its job and tired of using the fucker.

So Im gonna drop some serious cash this time and I dont want a MAC..

I just went into Lenovo and checked out their Thinkpad W-series and I almost came a bit in my pants. The deal though is that I havent been in the game of hardware since I stopped gaming 5-6 years ago so I don't know too much about it anymore. I would prefer to do like I used to to before just buy parts and put it together, because the two last on I bought in mainstream electric stores was packed with two million annoying as hell software in their pre-installed crap. I would love just to get Windows with the laptop or not even that and take care of my own needs..

So what would you get if you could $3000-$5000 and it has to be mobile since I travel alot.

adn here is some thanks for the help.

Shit, 5k budget?! You'll get certified top shit hardware and then some. I mean we're talking next level shit.

IMO, just spend like 2k on a kick ass laptop. That'll get a really good laptop, but you won't want to kill yourself in 1-2 years when a new CPU thats even better comes out.

for a 5k budget you should be able to afford better than a fucking onboard sound card. He can't even plug in a high-def surround system on this kind of sound card.

I'm not sure that satisfies the "mobile since I travel a lot" requirement, since that laptop weighs in at twelve pounds.

I got the Gateway NV58 from TigerDirect August of 2009 for like $500 and it's been quite good at running a ton of programs at the same time (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, IRC, Messengers, MS, Excel, Word, Firefox with 20+ tabs, etc.). It gets around 3 hours of battery life if you aren't watching a movie or some other resource intensive stuff.

Most Windows laptops won't get more than 1.5 hours or so of real intensive computing.

I stopped shelling out a ton of cash on computers and just get systems that work fine now. Even the super awesome ones will suck in a year if you don't take care of them. I won't pay more than $700 for laptops since those work quite well for just about everything you need. If it's a desktop, cool - you can easily reuse old expensive hardware in other machines later on and make them into servers or test environments.

Well the first com I ever bought ended up at $4 k and its the best machine I ever bought. I didnt regret it at all actually.. The last one I bought was a laptop for $1.5 k, got a fuckin thunderstorm and rain straight into it and and go another piece of shit in the insurance that has tons of fault.. Im ready for quality again.

Yeah hell no for onboard sound or gfx. It just fucks you over in the end to be cheap with things like onboard crap

Well as long as I can fold that fucker together and put him in a bag, I expect it to be big. I want full keyboard with numpad and as big screen as possible so 17 wide.

This will be both my moneymaking machine and media station, and my most prized possession. Even more important than the girl ;)

Love thinkpads. Thinkpad or bust. Best keyboards. Awesome reliability. Just be sure to get on-site repair.

I say stay away from solid state drives... had a couple myself and they failed epically after 2 weeks of hammering.... do not go toshiba they are crap.... I know as I have had nothing but troubles with mine...

The best bet is anything jap made... so sony, fujitsu and even the levenos...

make sure to get something which is serviced in your country.

Toshiba isn't the best option, but because it has good servicing here, that is what I own.

I wanted some other brand, but if you can't get it serviced, then, well, unless you plan on fixing it on your own (if you can even get the parts), you are going to be fucked.

US people don't think that way because they generally get good servicing from any brands they buy.

Toshiba's are great IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM. Too much bouncing around can damage the hard drive and if you buy a cheap Toshiba, you're fucked. Go get the most expensive 18.4" Toshiba if you want something kickass and reliable. Though it can only handle 8gb of ram, the large screen is amazing. I personally have a Sony Vaio 16.4" and it's okay. I know like ten people that have the most expensive Toshiba though and they're absolutely epic. Before my current Vaio, all my laptops have been Toshiba. To get a quality laptop, it's really important that you spend a decent amount of money. The $400 Toshiba is going to be a piece of shit, as is any other brand that's bought on the cheap. But if you want something that's really high quality, go with the 18.4" Sager. With triple 160gb SSD's the thing is about $4,600. It too maxes out at 8gb of ram, but Sager's are pretty high quality machines. My first laptop was a Sager.
