Getting accepted as a youtube partner

I made a video a couple of years ago and uploaded it to youtube.
I hadn't checked it for a few years but when I did I saw it had over a million views. This basicaly sparked the idea in me of monetising my youtube account.

Now I know I can't use the video itself because it's riddled with copywright stuff, but I'm very busy in the process of making my own videos which I can use on the same subject.

Now I heard that you can choose yourself which videos on your account you put ads on so, obviously I wouldn't use the one with copywrighted content but I do want to use it to direct traffic to my new video's.

The thing I'm afraid of is that youtube won't accept my request to become a youtube partner cus one of my video has alot of copywrighted shit in it, even though I wouldn't put ads on that video (youtube already puts ads on it themself tho). Am I wrong to think this? I realy hope this isn't a problem and I can use this account to start monetising cus it would be a bitch to start off from scratch.

If someone with some experience in the youtube partner program could shed some light on the situation, it would be very helpful.
