Wickedfire is a pretty harsh judge of ... well, pretty much everything.

Ebooks and self-promotional blogs would be at the top of the list for how to get flamed on WF.

But two have managed to escape the wrath of wickedFire almost unscathed.

"SEO Book" by Aaron Wall and "Blue Hat SEO" by Eli.

Become an SEO Professional & Dominate Google's Search Results : SEO Book.com
ø Blue Hat SEO-Advanced SEO Tactics ø

These are great resources, but there are others that are as good out there IMHO.

Obviously Aaron and Eli have managed to do something that others haven't.

What do you think it is?

Well... I was going to put up this :love-smiley-083: but that's kinda crude.

Seriously, there both nice guys and have their shit together. In other words, neither are idiots.

i won't speak for myself because i've been flamed here before just like everyone else.

I think seo book escapes the heat because of the way its marketed. the blog isn't a shovanistic self promoting one. Its opinionated but he rarely talks about himself or talks himself up. Even though he's pretty well engulfed in the guru clique he definitely doesn't conform IMO. The book is blatantly pushed as a way to ease newbies into the game and explains a few things about the industry and how it works. It isn't marketed as some big rich jerk style way of making mad banks on the interwebs. It has its purpose and for what its worth it accomplishes it. So there isn't a whole lot ppl can trash on it for because it isn't trying to be sold to people like us. In fact i often recommend it to people who skewer me with "what is seo? teach me making money online" faggy questions.

oh....plus we gave jon a rusty trombone.

I'm not familiar with Aaron Wall so I can't comment on him and what he does, but I honestly don't see how Bluehatseo is self-promoting at all. Eli does nothing but share his knowledge and doesn't ask anything in return. Personally, I've learned a shit ton by reading Eli's blog and I've never given him a dime.

Self promotion, my ass. Eli is the man.

is not fair to say the information he gives away is a promotion (direct or indirect) for himself?

If you want to get that deep into his methods then the answer may be yes - *BUT* the thing that sets Eli apart is the fact that he gave away a shit-ton of GOOD information - his BS to content ratio is head and shoulders above most :P

Eli's info is written well, answers lots of questions, and newbies like me can almost understand it. He must have a positive and generous heart to give away information that good without expecting anything but the thanks from those he has taught.

That's they gayest thing I've read yet today (it's still morning so the day is young yet)

That's like saying "isn't a well groomed, well spoken, attractive, intelligent person in business directly or indirectly always selling themselves"? Of fucking course they are, that's life. You are constantly selling yourself everyday in everyway. It doesn't mean you have to be anything your not. If you are an interesting, intelligent, attractive, well spoken...etc person than this will all come quite naturally. Back to the topics at hand, I would say they sale themselves just by being who they are which is pretty cool. Plus they offer great solutions and tools and you end up hoping they make alot of money because they are that good.

I wouldn't put SEObook and Bluehatseo in the same league at all, especially in terms of being self promotional. The whole point of SEObook.com is to be self promotional -- he's trying to sell his consulting services and ebook. The name of the site is the name of the product, ffs.

I think for anyone who contributes as much quality and unique information as often and as long as Eli has, it's hard not to give them some respect. In fact, if you know of other guys you think are on the same level, spread the good word man :).

The difference is:

A sincere attempt to be helpful and informative VS a blatant attempt at personal gain without valuable substance.

While both may have profit at the core, one is useful and the other is annoying.
