Not that I know of. I went canoeing once and one was swimming around us; those are some of the most ugliest fresh water fish I've ever seen.

Hell no you don't eat gar. They are trash fish. All they do is mess up the ecosystems of the lakes they get into. Most people just leave them on the site of the road, throw them away, or shoot them.

That one is pretty small. They can get huge.

How people are able to catch such large fish on there own amazes me (not really referring to the picture, because I don't know much about the circumstance.)

Gar are disgusting creatures. We catch them a lot when fishing for striped bass here in SC. They're basically a prehistoric-looking fresh water fish that will eat your bait and if you're unlucky enough to get one in the boat they can severe fingers and toes with their strong, toothy jaws.

I usually just beat the hell out them with a boat paddle if I think there's a chance I can get my lure back (using reinforced gloves and pliers) but if not I just cut the line and chalk it up as a loss.

That gar is actually pretty small. The cajuns down here in louisiana eat em...and possum, nutria rat, raccoons, armadillo, etc.
