And yes, it's comedy, which is refreshing from other shows that pretend like they're news and push agendas.

Why do people take Jon Stewart and the Daily Show as real news?

For the same reason that the sheeple write letters to "Day Time Soap Operas" asking if the damn charactors are OK after seeing them in an accident on the show!!! Or they see the actor in person and think that they can "diagnose" an ailment they have!! Sheezzz!!

Why do people take Jon Stewart and the Daily Show as real news?

I think the difference is, most people on the left recognize MSNBC as being just as biased as FOX, but people on the right find it so hard to even admit that FOX News is far from "Fair and Balanced". I can't watch either network without smiling. I wish CNN was the answer, since they claim to follow the middle ground, but the reality is all three networks suck balls and only cater to the lower denominator.

As far as people taking Jon Stewart to be the real news...link please. I've never seen or heard any such thing. He is however, a funny mother fucker that calls it like it is and goes after politicians on the right and the left. If it seems like he goes after the right more, it's only because they make it so damn easy.

Too many people bitching about cable "news" these days. A couple yrs ago I cut off my cable service and I didn't even explode or anything.

I got all the movies and tv shows online, and used to go to places like reuters and bbc to see what's up, but then they got bought up by large corporations and I kinda eased off of them.

A few weeks ago, I moved on campus and there is cable service here, so I knocked the dust off the TV and plugged it in and not long after I turned it on, I get this really bad case of vertigo, but it goes away about 15 minutes after I turn it off.

A long time ago, I used to be into the kind of stuff like you would hear on Art Bell and I understand why people on these shows say what they do and are able to stay on so long. Same reason why places like warrior forum are still around; there is a small percentage of people who buy into what they are selling and will stay there all day long and give up their full attention. Who needs 50 million people to visit you for 20 minutes a day when you have 50,000 who will stay there all day, every day.

Instead of bitching about the smoke and mirrors, I'd be interested in seeing some links to some real news sites, preferably from outside the U.S.

Righties love hearing other righties bash lefties. It's just not as true on the left. They try to duplicate the format on the left but fail, eg, Air America filed bankruptcy in '06 and the ratings of the msnbc lefty tools suck compared to their righty tool counterparts on fox. And how many liberal radio talk show hosts are there outside of Air America? Talk radio is dominated by righties who spend all day making fun of and distorting lefty positions.

So either unarmed gunmen is right that lefties know the difference, or maybe they just don't care as much. Or, maybe lefties just prefer drinking their kool-aid from websites instead of getting it from tv and radio. But even if you count all the elitist commies logged in to huffing post on their mac notebook while sipping expensive coffee in a coffee shop with their friends over a discussion of how awesome Canada and France are, I'm still not really sure they'd rival the numbers that the righty tv and radio show hosts pull in. But hey, you're the math genius, so maybe you can run the numbers.
