When it comes to gmail, google analytics, and webmaster tools I am so paranoid about google tying multiple projects to any one account or ip that I keep every project separate with new accounts, emails, and ips.

And I don't use chrome to access any google service in fear that they might be able to see my chrome installation id tied to multiple gmail, webmaster tools and analytics accounts.

If a friend or client adds me to their analytics, I then create a new email address and login from a new ip.

Paranoid much?
:party-smiley-004:

I have individual accounts for all of my sites. Don't want anyone doing a G analytics ID lookup.

Yesterday, maybe 30 minutes before leaving the office, I (on my desktop computer) googled a merchant processing company that happens to have offices nearby. When I got in my car, my phone asked me if I needed directions to their offices.

Good luck bros.

you do know that google has mapped all wireless networks via their google street view cars right? That's how they're able to so accurately locate your laptop. You can change your IP all you want but if you're connected to ANALBLAST69 Wifi network they know exactly where you are.

Not from browsing the web but if you install shit on your computer it has access to physical address for each nic

PhysicalAddress Class (System.Net.NetworkInformation)

Even on iOS.

The game engine I like using gives you nice methods to access it: how I get local physical address (MAC address)? - Unity Answers or http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/31999-getting-mac-address-with-.net

I was looking at it for mobile games where you don't want the user to have to login, just access the db record based on physical address they connect with. If no record, add one.

^ srs?

i need to learn more about this stuff. like, I had no idea that a server could see a clients wifi connection. I thought they could just see your ip and what network you were connected from, and your location (ie sprint, verizon, whatever)

So what then... just say fuck it and resign to the fact that google knows and can see the footprint that connects all of your web properties together?

Or is the power to process such information and factor it into their webspam efforts just not there yet.

Yeah the server can only see the IP, you have to pass the physical address from the app/game on the machine, the server can get the IP address from the connection.

In php it's easy to post info(mac address) you want to send to the server in a URL. Server queries mysql to see if there's a primary key for that address, if not it makes a new entry, if it has a match then you can increment whatever you want. In a game for example, each time the user loads a certain level you could increment an attribute in the table for that player. Then you can figure out which level is more popular, who's played it the most, whatever you want.

In .net you can access each nic card if there are more than 1. Probably similar in java and other languages.

I still refuse to use GA. There's literally no reason to, it's your own god damn site data.

Why give it up, and for what some fancy reports? Even with legit branded sites....

Much rather spend the extra $$/month and get my own, and maintain my privacy.

I can't control my privacy that much online, but no matter what I retain full control of my business.

(note) Also thankfully I don't run SPAM sites, but let's be real... If G is fucking you over with penalties.

You really think the Link Disavow tool is there to help you? Like G dumped money/time into it for YOU? With no alternate motive...

Keep telling yourself that while you hand all your link data over to them on a silver platter.

ahh i see...

so any sort of script or app can pull the MAC address and transmit it.

So basically even with my precautions, ganalytics/wmt probably has my MAC address and sees all my different ips and web properties tagged with that MAC address.

nice.

well. more reason to just not use ganalytics, gmail, or wmt at all. Hard to giveup wmt though, some good info in there. maybe I will setup a machine with mac address spoofing purely for logging into wmt. HAHa...

oh dear..

I just signed up for getclicky, all my new sites will be using getclicky.

WMT on the other hand, i like the impression and clickthrough data :( All though at this point I could probably estimate this data pretty well for my niche.
