Google Display Network Contextual Targeting - Anyone Seeing Conversions?

Wait, an internet marketing related discussion.....can it be?

I used to be all about the Google Display Network using contextual targeting. I did very well with it back in the day for a multitude of offers. Lately I've been running CPAs for private clients. Simple CPAs requiring only an email address for conversion and i've seen the conversion rates on the Display Network (using contextual targeting) go down to virtually nothing.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Has the quality just turned to shit?

Turn on the conversion optimizer. Set your CPA target (either MAX CPA or Average CPA)...

Problem solved?

Depending on how you have your campaign setup, you may want to separate out your display network and search traffic... because you have to turn the conversion optimizer on at the campaign level.

The conversion optimizer is only useful if you have enough conversion history/data for it to work. You may need to add the conversion tracking pixel to your site if you haven't done this already.

I don't care about costs, i'm talking conversions.

I've made money from the content network for many years. (and still do...)

It's a whole bunch of "hit and miss" for me. I make money on the content network with keyword triggers that are useless with search. You also have to look at reports, and get rid of sites that don't produce.

Start all content campaigns from scratch, using all available keywords.

You need separate campaigns... If you have a single ad that works on both, you're still leaving money on the table. Glad it works, but it could be working better. People who convert via content ads are different from people who convert via search ads.

If you tell google what your $ conversion goal is, they will match it at best. They exist to extract as much money from you as possible.

If they aren't burning you yet, they will be.
