Google getting rid of Keyword Tool & Estimator

Random post : term explorer is awesome

Hmm....

Term Explorer - Beta

Testimonials
  • Guerilla WF, DP - CommunitySeo.com My seo simply wouldn't be where it is today without Term Explorer. I've been actively using it in private beta for several months, and Term Explorer has changed the way I do keyword research. I'm thrilled with the number of unique keywords TE finds that other software does not. Those keywords are money in the bank since I am usually one of the only people targeting them. It's not the same stuff recycled by other tools, but a new way of organizing and classifying keywords that no one else has figured out.
The difference is their algorithm. Created by SEOs for SEO. Term Explorer is the faster, easier and simpler keyword analysis tool.

Do we know the guy from that "Testy Moanial" ?!!

From what I can tell the only search volume data you can get is for exact match and they combine mobile and desktop traffic in that number.

You can get broad and phrase match data on the traffic estimate data (estimated clicks, impressions, cost, etc) but even when you export that data the search volume numbers stay the same regardless of match type.

So basically, they have taken broad, phrase, exact, local, global, search network, mobile and desktop numbers that you could get separately and rolled them all into one "exact match" search volume number.

You can parse things out a little like search volume by country for instance, but you can't get separate numbers based on options like you could before just one homogenous "average search volume" number.

You can now get volume down to the city level though.

You can get pretty much the same info, its just a matter of dealing with a whole bunch of stupid configurations to do it. They're just really trying to push people towards broad match.

You guys are surprised by this?

Gimme a break.

1 sure fire way to cut back on spam, bullshit MFA and thin pages, and other tom foolery is to cut the noobs and unoriginals off at their knees by taking away or changing up the KW tool. Every 2 bit spammer and MFA guy uses it and it just helps promote spam even more by having the tool out there for noobs to look at and dream up new ways to rank for some BS KW that gets 7500 visitors a month with a estimated CPC of $12.

Once you take this tool away or fuck it up to where the data is hard to get, you will drop a ton of unoriginal spammers, poor quality site makers, and MFA type shit from getting built in the SERPs.

Sure, other people will make other tools and grab other data, but a change has been coming for years now.

I am sure their motive is to roll out planner and fuck with Adwords advertisers to get more spend from them ( just like they are doing with Enhanced campaigns and how they did with the rotate option in Adwords months ago ), but this will also end up cutting out some shit from the SERPs too IF they do it right.

I was pissed to hear the news that keyword tool was being retired.

However I remember a Mixergy masterclass that was done by Iain Dooley a few months back - I was about to contact him for an update on the new tool however he's already done a new video, check it out.

Iain if your reading this buy a new mic, audio is shit! Apart from that great video.

The easy money is in the margins between exact match and broad match. n00bs.

just like they are doing with Enhanced campaigns

Tomorrow is the day your default bids get pushed out over all mobile platforms if you don't manually change them for enhanced (-100% is your friend). So much money going to switch hands between advertisers not paying attention and Google.

I think -90 is the most you can go actually, have to recheck but I was ready for this day 4 weeks back

I played with the new keyword estimator for about 30 minutes tonight.

The main annoyance that I see is I don't see anyway to quickly compare side by side exact/phrase/broad match keywords

While the old keyword tool was great for comparing keyword data, this tool is much more focused on actual integration of the Adwords product, which is also very annoying.

JB and I are discussing this on skype right now, I think he's correct with the -90% if you use the Adwords site but if you download Adwords Editor, it'll take a -100% bid on mobile.

This one goes to eleven.

Really? Sweet! I wondered this when I played around with it a few weeks ago - I noticed only 90%.

Thanks for the heads-up chap!

The worst part about this update is that their traffic estimator is completely broken. It returns 0 daily impressions for a bunch of fairly popular keywords.

That being said you can still get meaningful exact match data from the keyword tool. For broad and phrase matches you have to look into automatic the traffic estimator, and there you will quickly run into problems with the incomplete data google offers.

Overall this is a step down from what we had before.

I'm all for anything that brings a higher barrier to entry.

It's really a nuisance that everyone and their mother now earns $7.89 a month and this little money works as an irresistible drug for them to spend countless of hours on before eventually quitting but still clogging up the results with their worthless minisite.

Just do what I do...

Install spyware on every local library computer near you. Infinitely more accurate and valuable than Google tilting results to increase Adwords buys.
