Google incentivizing "unnatural" social profile usage?

How is it unnatural to ask someone to review local places?

I think what they did was wrong, but don't think the reviews that it would generate would be unnatural.

This is yet another thing they are trying to do to trick people into using Google+

WOW! Seems like a huge violation of their own user policies, don't make me start citing GWT but this seems hugely hypocritical and not in the best interest of users.

Basically what they are saying that if you don't have reviews to fake them.

That has to do with paid links. Are there any rules or policies against asking people to write reviews?

A certain percent of new users will end up creating links to their Google+ account, but even if they don't and just do reviews, that interaction can make the related pages and Google+ as a whole look better to search algorithms.

Google’s confusing change on reviews

“…we do not accept reviews written for money or other incentives.

Google’s new policy comes out against incentives for reviews, which is technically not the same as encouraging reviews. Yes, an incentive is an encouragement, but it’s possible to encourage without including an incentive.

That article is from 2010. They have updated their policy.

Removals of Google Places reviews - Places for business Help

Conflict of interest: Reviews are only valuable when they are honest and unbiased. For instance, as a business, you should not offer money or product to others to write reviews for your business or to write negative reviews about a competitor. As a reviewer, you should not accept money or product from a business to write a review about them. Additionally, don’t review a certain way just because an employee of that business asked you to do so. Don’t post reviews on behalf of others or misrepresent your identity or affiliation with the place you are reviewing.

You can't offer "money or product".

I don't think guaranteed access to a free event is a product...
