So the question for us is, do you trust Matt Cutts to stay out of your whois data for your privacy - even if you are an SEO, like they "do" for gmail? ;)

Thanks. For a while was looking where to buy domains for my new PBN. Free private registration definitely closes the deal.
 
I'm just about 100% convinced that Google is getting significant gov't money that serves as a hedge against all of their non-adwords fuckups.

And btw, the adwords interface is just about as slow as myspace ever was.

They can see 99% of my whois data now on nearly 500 domains, so meh.

What's the price going to be like? I see $12 on one of their home page graphics, but are they going to offer bulk discounts? I get my .coms for $8.29 a year with GoDaddy, so when choosing one poison over the other, I prefer the cheapest shit.

I'm pretty sure they were a registrar years ago.

If those assholes really want to be in that space, they'll float rumors regarding rankings or privacy... all an illusion.

They can also roll that into some other stupid products to give it more legitimacy.
 
I see no problem with regging domains through Google.

You guys wear so much tinfoil sometimes its quite funny ;]

The best practice is still to reg a domain for more than a year. What the fuck is Google going to do from being a registrar? Not really getting any new info they can get already.

You're probably right but why risk it eh? One day they might have the computing power to detect spam patterns on domains regged by them, would be a really shitty day for anyone that has their money sites regged on there.
 
Would never use them. Simply because they're not doing this to build a profitable endevaeour, but instead to learn more about you. Fuck 'em.

No, I'm pretty sure they are doing it to make money. thats it.

Unknowledable users and small biz owners users buying domains. Tie in domain registration into Google Places, Webmaster Tools, and Analytics. Upsell them 10 years registration on signup, keep rebilling them every year bc they dont know where in their Google account to go cancel it, etc. Its about $. Not to learn more about you.

Reminds me of when they launched Google Voice phone numbers, and people I knew immediately started using them in Google Places. Seemed to me that was about the last thing you'd want to do if you were trying to look like a legit biz, and cared to have some listing longevity.
 
knowing how shitty google customer support what can they do, shove free domains down one's throat maybe.
