I have a list of keywords (which I rank for organically, just not in the first 3 spots) which have driven sales previously on a site of mine according to my analytics.

Now, I'd like to buy the top spot..so fire up adwords and go to get it..no one else is bidding on these words, it should be easy, right?

no. google tells me that 'there is not enough search volume for your ad to show'. wtf does volume have to do with them showing the only paying ad for this set of keywords? there are literally no ads that show up when i search for the words I'm trying to get. is there a way to get the ads to show up? I realize only 5 people per month might be searching this, but the markup is 100%+ on what I'm selling, and they are 2k+. I only need 1 of them to buy, and if it only happens once a month so be it. What can I do??

I don't think Google bothers with keywords that have super low volume. Sure they might be profitable to you but to Google they are pointless.

What are 'low-traffic keywords'? - AdWords Help Center

Keeping these keywords out of the ad auction helps AdWords serve ads more efficiently and reduces the volume of keywords on our system. Before stopping a keyword from joining the auction, our system evaluates the number of searches on a given keyword worldwide over the past twelve months. It takes very little search traffic for a keyword to be unsuspended, and for business practice reasons we don't disclose our keyword traffic thresholds.

weird, been bidding on obscure longtail a lot and never got this msg from G

edit: it does show this msg for long tail keywords (in the magnifying glass icon near the keyword in AW gui). nice to know.

nice to know, shitty to experience. raising my bids to rediculous amounts didn't help either ($15+ per click). and they don't disclose the difference between a low volume and a regular keyword.

Make your add in starter edition ..This might work ..else let me try few tricks with your campaign ...May be I can help you
