Google Ringtone Policy Update

The opt-in has been a requirement for a long time (since last year). The new thing is having to clearly mention price and service duration as well. A sure CTR killer - unless you're creative about it. :)
Creative like this?

Notice how they've made the mandatory warning label of quantity of standard drinks seem like some sort of cool thing?
"Yeah, JB! We got 20 standard drinks per bottle and it's gonna fuck... you... uuuuup! Not like those cigarettes that are totally gonna kill you... PAAARRTTTYYYeeargh!"

Getting serious again, you could do something similar.
"Be forced toGet a new ring tone every day, for a year!"

The difference is people are addicted to cigarettes and know they kill you. And will still buy them anyway.

People are not addicted to ringtones, and do not know they charge you $9.99/month.

Didn't know they added that "warning" on alcohol. Must have happened since I left the states in '02. Like you said though - it almost defeats its purpose. :D

Anyway - mobile services will still have a high demand and market:

- even though you can use MP3's as ringtones on most phones, a lot of people will still not know how to set that up - or get the song they want over to their phone.
- people are willing to pay for other mobile content too, such as video ringtones, games, wallpapers, themes, animated messages, and gay apps like the "x-ray vision" and "cellphone radar" (heavily promoted here in Norway).

yeah, Im in ringtones its my main egg right now, pretty hard to break into other areas of the market just because ringtones is such a huge playing field.

But one thing i dont understand is how google is cracking down so hard all on there advertisers, its like wtf. Why would you hurt the advertisers? i mean advertisers is what is driving there whole adsense system, without advertisers that means there is no adsense. They need to be careful how far they push things or they could cut there own foot off.

Positive user experience.

Positive user experience.

Positive user experience doesn't always make money- look at their earnings report today. Positive user experience don't pay bills, advertisers do. They are no damn zappo or amazon they don't offer products we do and we are the ones that make them rich a 500$ stock that is made from us.

GOOG - Google Inc. - Google Finance
Mkt Cap: 167.55B

Positive experience has happened to make them a lot of money.

Keep convincing yourself that you know what is best though. You are, after all, who makes Google rich. It's definitely not the billions of daily page views from happy users that have positive user experiences. Just don't get caught comparing your bank account to Page or Brin's.

Dull by no means am I going to act like some stock expert but yesterday proved google is in the same position as any other company. Everybody sits here and says the web can survive this hit that is bullshit. I work for a bunch of daytraders, I am not sure how much of you guys follow what is going in the market but we are not allowed to short(basically means betting the stock will go down in value) banks anymore. Our market is dying day by day and google is feeling it to.

They usually hire 1,000 employees a quarter last quarter i beleive they only hired about 500. So when people show me MKT Cap, I want you to go look at banks and the trends, tell me mkt cap then. So with all that shit said positive user experience wasnt paying those bills all those advertiser were.
