I'm new to SEM. I just pitched my current partner/client, a financial options brokerage, about an exclusive performance based marketing agreement. I'm thinking of charging them $35 per lead.

Since I'm new to affiliate marketing do I:

1) have them register with a network and give me an exclusive

2) I register with a network as an advertising agency and manage their account.

3) Not register with a network at all.

Also, if I do register them with a network, which one is appropriate for this type of relationship? Any suggestions would be appropriated.

So wait, you pitched an idea to a client with no idea how you are going to market it/ get it set up?

I'm well experienced in PPC, SEO and online development. I'm trying to understand the best way to track leads using a performance marketing approach. Should I register my client on a Network to track and managed commissions or should I simply track using Google Adwords and landing page conversion. I thought it would simplify my accounting and lead tracking by registering my client through a network. Maybe I'm wrong.

dude... you just wrote... that you are new to SEM in your first post...

now you are well experienced... you are fucking killing me here

wow. Prepare for some bumps. How are you collecting the leads, form submit or phone? If its a form submit you simply need to have it mail to yourself and your client. If they require you to post to a CRM then you need to set up a web based management system. You don't need to bring a network in, you just want to use their software not provide them with any financial incentive really...

Leads are from submit forms.

Since I've never used a network before, I thought maybe the networks could offer some tools for tracking/conversion and tying in with a cool tool like T202 to help optimize the campaign.

Figure it out on your own- your client will respect the trial and error process you put them through.

LOL. Yea have fun with that. You better learn fast, not that this is complicated at all. If its just a form, you can A) have it e-mail the lead to you and your customer, manually put the data into excel, and work with him on lead quality. Or hire a coder to set it up where it inserts the info into a nice DB and you can run reports.
