Have you mentored any of your offline friends in this stuff?

I'm thinking of showing a close friend a thing or two about making money online so he can get some supplemental income... Have any of you done the same? Any concerns I should be looking out for?

I have a friend that does a lot of MLM stuff and is making bank on it too (he got in early). I was trying to explain to him how arbitrage and AM works.

I wasn't suprised he was completely lost since he doesn't actually sell anything. But I may get him started on some stuff, though I'm far from being a mentor on the subjects.

Worst mistake I made when I started making alot was hiring my own friend... I had some mindless tasks at first I needed him to do with the idea that he would start to pick up how to do this shit and be able to help by making sites or landing pages or whatever.. Basically he just treated it like a free ride, didn't learn anything and was working like 2 days a week and had loads of excuses... I fired him.

People wont learn how to do this unless they want/need it. If you have to convince your buddy its worth it chances of him doing anything with it are very slim in my opinion.

I'm afraid you probably hit a frustrating nerve for a couple ppl with that question. Allow me to rant? :)

My friends are always wanting me to teach them how to do it and get them into the game(it seems like a sweet deal on the outside i guess), and I'm always willing to do it. However I'm yet to have a single one stick with it or actually put any sort of effort for more than a week into it. Internet marketers tend to be a unique breed. Everyone else is just content thinking its easy for us and they will never have the technical knowledge for it. You give them the technical knowledge and show them the real work behind it and the non existant inital pay and they tend to loose interest real fast.

They just see us checking the mail and grabbing checks they don't realize that we worked our asses off for a month or two with no pay just for the chance of getting one of those checks a month later. In my experience most ppl have one understanding thats impossible to break with them: 40hrs work*hourly wage=bimonthly check. Likewise: Paycheck=bills+fun not Paycheck=bills+assets+reinvestments+fun.

I'll spare you the pointless rant about the huge research times and failure rates when first starting out. :)

Mostly people aren't interested and the others who are never have time to get together to set anything up after time spent brainstorming and explaining. I hope it works out better for you.

I'll stick with helping family. Bob and I help each other out, he just got his dad interested and his dad even wants to hire me to write, and my daughters are cooperative.

If you mentor friends or family, charge a consultation fee. It's a big waste of f'n time, no one ever sticks with it.

All my friends are the opposite. They don't think I can ever make any sort of living off the net. Once I get things going, I wouldn't be surprised if they start asking me questions.

Nobody from family or friends I talk to about this really understands Adsense, Arbitrage, Affiliate Marketing, SEO, and so on. I do not even hand out URLs to my sites to avoid someone wanting to "help me" by clicking the ads for me ....

I teached one of my best friends how to make money online with internet marketing, but never tell them detail stuff... The last thing you want is more competition heh! :)

If its a good friend I would have no problem helping them out, hell I would have no problem designing and setting the site for them and might even pay for the first years hosting. You dont come by friends everyday and true friend are like family, but the question you have to ask yourself is this "friend" really a friend or an aquatence.

I can truely say that I only have a few honest friends, one of which gave me an Infinity he had parked in his garage, to use untill I got back on my feet and got a set of wheels. I have put thousands of dollars up to get another back on his feet.

So yeah if its a true friend why not, but I think if this was the case you wouldnt be asking this question to begin with.

Figured Id make one serious post before checking out for the night.

why mentor someone in something were there is no money? you can't make money online unless you have an actual product, everything else is a scam!

Hmm... interesting issue. With me it's like this: I happen to know two other people that are "in the game" so to speak and whenever we go for a beer or something or happen to talk about this it's the same as on wickedfire: no specifics - I don't know what they're working on, they don't know what I'm working on.

The rest of the folks I know are just too ignorant or too lazy to give a damn about this. My brother was nagging me to teach him the ropes when he saw the first check I got from Google about 2 years back, but soon quit when he saw there's no step-by-step guide. Good thing he did, I would've hated him copying my every move.

When I first started out with Adsense, I kind of though "shit, this is crazy, I better keep it a secret." Fuck it, most people can't even be bothered to learn how to set up a basic web site let alone bust their ass to try to make money from it.

I taught my cousin how to do AM stuff, he has been making $XXXX a month since his first month. He ended up teaching a few friends who combined made $XX,XXX last month. 70% of what they made was profit.

I also taught a good friend of mine who hasnt worked for 3 years, he has a baby and is so lazy that he hasnt stuck with it. I also almost hired this friend until i realized it would be hard to fire him, i guess my instincts were right since he hasnt made $1 with AM, i even wrote copy and showed him step by step how to spam something and make $1-$200 a day.

Dont work with friends, if you have doubt about showing someone something, dont. I taught my cousin through AIM in 2 hours, and sent him to WF and said dont ask me anymore questions, figure it out yourself.
