Hey Everyone.

This is my first post on WickedFire and I just wanted to introduce myself and ask for some advice. I've been reading a ton of tutorial posts and I guess I fall into the category of "thinking" but not "doing".

I'm currently a full-time college student but I can definitely manage my time.

Honestly, I'd love to start doing and making money, but I was turned off after some failed attempts at affiliate marketing a while back.

I'm looking to start off fresh, preferably in the landing page/CPL arena, maybe even some social networking --- but not sure what there is to do.

I was thinking of starting off with Ringtones, and possibly using Blogspot somehow in the equation, and possibly using social networking to fuel traffic. Though I don't even know if I can get banned by doing so, and if Blogspot has certain rules that you can't make money off CPL companies other than Google. Anyone have nay info on this?

Any tips or help in finding a direction would be great, I'm all ears.

Thank You,
Dr. Scientist.

Dont use blogspot as a landing page get a hosting plan and a domain

Since your starting off use Yahoo and Bing first and once you start making money there and see how it all works then move over to google.

Thanks for the reply, man.

At the moment I have $0 funds. Broke college student. :P. I'll definitely get a domain and a hosting plan as soon as I can, hopefully in the next week or so.

I was thinking of running ringtone campaigns out of Facebook groups/fan pages and then having the landing page on a blog or something like that to make it relatively simple. Or even, I could link directly to the campaign, though I'm not sure how smart that is.

Thanks again for the reply.

first off, no introduction threads (read the rules). you're gonna catch hell for this i'm sure.

but because you actually asked a question and are broke I will help you in an effort to stabilize the economy.

you have $0 so paid traffic is out of the question. your goal should be to earn some money so you can do paid traffic. free traffic can make a little cash but paid traffic is easier and far more profitable, for me anyway.

you have a few options.

  1. Do some online work for others for hourly fees. (copywriting, web design, whatever you can do) to earn some cash so you can do paid traffic.
  2. Do Bum/ Article Marketing / 30 day challenge type of stuff. you'll basically be launching sites to the top of the search engine results on low traffic keywords. It's tedious and you will not get rich but you can make some cash without spending cash.
  3. Answer questions at Yahoo Answers with links to aff products, tell them you used the product with a lot of success, they go buy it, you get paid. People were doing this last year, not sure how doable it is today.
Once you get some money, start spending it. If I were new I would start with Facebook and market leadgen offers to a very tiny market so you get max ROI on the $$ that you spend. You can normally find Facebook coupons online that'll get you $50 to start with.

Whoa, sorry about the intro post then, didn't know that.

But thanks a ton for reading and replying to my thread. I'm not out to make hundreds of thousands of dollars or anything. My venture is mainly to pay off for college expenses such as books and other fees.

Though if it does work out, I don't see why I couldn't try and start a business with affiliate marketing.

I'll follow up on your Facebook leadgen point and see where that takes me. Would I have a problem getting accepted into an affiliate network without a domain?

Thanks.

Depends on the network, you can tell them that you'll be direct linking and targeting social network traffic (if you're planning on doing the facebook method). Best thing would probably be to call up the affiliate network before applying and speaking to somebody and letting them know your situation and what you're going to be doing. In your situation if you apply first and answer with vague answers, you're most likely to be declined just due to the precautions and guidelines the networks have to take due to the huge amount of fraudulent applicants.

I'll contact some affiliate programs and see how it all works out.

Any opinions on using 000webhost with a free .tk domain for some temporary affiliate marketing? I saw someone mention that on this website a few pages back and I thought that was pretty interesting. I'd only be using it for a testing ground, of course.

Other than that, I'm thinking of using Facebook for the most part.

Thanks again.

I haven't tested it so I couldn't give you a definite answer. You can get .info's for .99 at godaddy. That's what I usually do. Not saying this is the end all answer, the only way you can determine anything is from testing and analyzing actual data.

I'll definitely start doing that soon. Though I know at some point I'll have to spend money to make money, right? Or even, lose money to make money initially.

What kind of affiliate marketing do you do? (If you don't mind me asking, of course)

if you're only looking to make a few bucks to pay for your books and school expenses, why do affiliate marketing? why not get a job bartending? you'll get paid, tips, and best of all, meet chicks. sure beats sitting in front of a computer in your underwear trying to make a few bucks out of nothing. not to say it's not possible, but i'm sure there's more entertaining ways to make some bucks.

I can't do that till next year since I have to take 15-17 hours per semester to stay in an Honors program. Since I'm doing most of my work on the computer anyway, I figured it'd be a cool thing to try.

Thanks for the tip though, I'll get on it as soon as I can.

I started with PPC back in 2000 but, I started promoting our own pretty successful offline family business at the time, online. So, I had my experience a lot earlier than where you might be.

Also regarding what another poster said that if you're just looking for some part time work maybe look into something else besides aff marketing is a good point. Regardless of what you may thing about "working at home" or whatever, this really is a real business. You really need to eventually get it all together. If you're just trying to make a quick buck, in my opinion, this might not be where you want to look.
