I'm looking for ideas for a blog my 14yo daughter could run to try and earn a little cash. She picks computer stuff up very quickly, more so than most kids I have seen. She is self teaching Photoshop and figures out stuff that suprises me.

I'm not sure what would be a good idea for her as a money maker. She is in to shopping and name brand clothes, although she doesn't make any money right now to buy them. She also likes the whole teen internet thing, myspace, etc. Between that, Photoshop and IM I can hardly get her away from the computer.

I figure maybe she could use some of that time to make some money and learn something. I'm pretty much a noob as well so I need some help with what to do.

Set her up with a WordPress blog with a custom design (possibly similar to this color scheme: Martini Pink) and have her focus her energy around fashion.

Have her subscribe to (possibly teen) fashion related feeds so that she can keep up with the latest news on top of the trends that she'll see at school and wherever else she goes. You want to make it reader friendly, so have her talk to her readers rather than talk at them.

Set up a phpbay installation, either on a different domain or on the same one (possibly with a new wordpress installation in a "store" folder), which'll allow her to make some money off of fashion recommendations which she can link to (and that may rank in the search engines). Be sure to have the color scheme match the blog.

Have her look for several blogs and forums pertaining to fashion, sign up to all of them and comment frequently (on the blogs at least), linking back to her blog. Make sure she uploads a small custom made picture as her avatar so that she's more recognizable in the blog comments also. The goal in this case is to become recognized by her fashion peers and to become a part of their "community" of neighbors.

If she focuses on teen fashion, and she notices that none of the various blogs interact with eachother, that's even better, as she'll be the one who eventually creates the bond that creates the community. At which point, she may be able to create her own forum which'll act as a hubspot for that same blog community/e-neighborhood. Which may open up new opportunities.

If it comes to a point where she no longer wants to maintain the blog, she can choose to outsource the work, or, given the quality design, the reputation built, the seo done, the traffic coming in, the feed subscribers, and the money made, she can put it up on sitepoint for sale. If she's able to offer at least 1 month of hosting to the buyer, even better.

Make sure she's really interested in fashion though, because if it's something that she's not really that passionate about, it'll get stale sooner than you know.

Wow. That was actually good advice. Kinda makes the "wait until she's 18 and do porn" joke I was gonna post even creepier and lamer than it would have been, so I won't post it.

Thanks much Swifty, that's a load of great information. That will give us a great place to get started. I think she might really be into something like this.

I'll let you know if she takes off with this.

I tried doing something similar with my little sister. You know what she picked as her topic of interest? Sea lions. You know how many posts she has on that goddamn blog? One!

But I might take it over, so GTFO my sea lion niche. It's an under the radar GOLD MINE.

I just had to reply and say that you almost made me drop the food out of my mouth I was laughing so hard. +rep for unexpected lulz.

lol..... For blogging, ask her to add some similar type affiliate program, probably some ppc. This would really make her earn some good hard cash.
