Hey, Video Game Affiliates

That's what I thought... I haven't done much with video games so I figured maybe it was pretty standard for the niche. Also seeing how big bogx retailers like Target.com offer 7% nearly across the board and only 3% on gaming stuff so I figured it was definitely just the niche.

But, someone please tell me I'm mistaken.

Amazon offers between 5% and 10%, but also only 1 day cookie.

I have never targeted the video game industry but that sounds like a raw deal to me. Why not target the game rental places instead? I know I have seen some offers like the GameFly offer from Azoogle that pays over $18 a signup and has a free 10 day trial and a 30 day cookie. Push the games but get them to sign up for that instead of buying a $50 game where you make only $2.50, absolute shit.

I've been looking for a good game affiliate for a long time and everyone I've found usually offers the 5% commission rate bullshit, you would think a multi-billion dollar industry would have some higher payouts but a lot of the larger companies own the industry well on the affiliate side anyway.

Like EA Games, Direct 2 Drive, Ubisoft.

All the big guys payouts are shitty but yeah I do know that the other end like game rentals, ect... give a lot higher payouts.

to make $1000 you would need to sell $20,000 worth of merch. SOunds like a not very profitable niche.

You realize of course that most video game developers rarely get close to 10%, so 5% for an affiliate is pretty good.

Of that $59.99 price tag (usually $39.99 before too long), 45% stays with the retail and 40% goes to the publisher and 15% goes to whatever console manufacturer is duplicating.

It would be surprising if affiliates ever get much higher than 10%, ever and at 5% we are better off than most developers who rarely recoup the costs to develop the game.

You could try Walmart at 1% (fuck you VERY much walmart).

Better to promote the bundles if you can't get cheap enough traffic to get a decent ROI. Even then they fuck you on the hardware by reducing you to 2% for all hardware.

I'd agree that the payout sucks. Doesn't mean you can't game the niche though.

There was an offer on NB awhile ago, I never got around to promoting it because I was too busy with other stuff, but it was a slick landing page, 3D games, pretty good payout, I think $3ish per lead.

So, I would have bid on some popular games, maybe built a review site about the games offered by the company, and probably would have banked.

You've also got the gamevance offers and stuff to look into. Ebay may be another way to go. There are social gaming site offers, netflix, all kinds of things to promote besides the games themselves.

I guess the moral of the story is just because a certain offer sucks doesn't mean the niche or the traffic sucks. Get inside your visitors heads. If they like video games they're probably interested in some of the offers that are out there. Try new things with the traffic.

scottfpsd82: great advice, and i will definitely be diversifying my revenue stream.

BUT, this is for a site about a SPECIFIC game where it is too OBVIOUS and easy to post a buy link for the game.

That being said, I guess if the payout for selling the game isn't as good as the payout for selling the game, who says I have to do the obvious?

Hmmmmm
