I am a newbie! Not afraid to admit it. I am gonna do my best to contribute valuable information and ideas back into the community, but am having trouble just getting started in general. What would be some good jumping off points, or books to read that would contain the information I am looking for? I am somewhat tech savvy and have been learning quite quickly. Thanks for your time,
Nick

Stickies on this forum, blogs of some WF members and the smell of success hovering over these boards will take you far if you are willing to work hard.

I see what you mean tomas. I just figured it would be good to make a first post, even though as of now, I don't have any relevant information to pass a long, just thought it would be good to get my name out there once.

Thanks for all the tips, any help is appreciated. I'm trying to be dedicated, posting this from my phone. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated

don't waste money on ebooks and so called money making products
read the stickies to get an idea of what it's all about and to learn how to think, try to find a niche that you know something about and is not too competitive ( do some research, guessing is not enough here), find some merchants with affiliate programs, build a website and find ways to promote it.
It sounds easy but it's not.

Icecube pretty much nailed it. One of my sites is about fishing. I used Adsense on it and it brought in a few bucks here and there. Then I started to visit the sites of manufacturers and other big boys in that industry. Many of them had aff programs.

I made good and unique posts about the products offered in the affiliate programs and Voila! Revenues got better.

Start out with something you are passionate about or know a considerable amount about. This will make your content writing many times easier.

I would council anyone starting out to do a simple WordPress blog site first. Use your first site as a test bed for ideas. Rinse and repeat.

Is there any way to host a wordpress site for free. Just so I can experiment with it and not have to be paying for it. I understand I will most likely have to transfer it to a paid domain/host but I just mean for he time being?

you can install xampp on your own computer and test it, or get a free host and try to install it, but use it just for testing and learning WP

when you're ready to start a site go with a real host, with few bucks you can buy one year of hosting or you can decide to buy just 6 months or month to month... you don't need to spend $100s on hosting
