Just came across this article...

He says: "
As part of my muscle-building routine, I've been taking creatine monohydrate. I usually mix with dextrose and protein after a workout. On this day, I used acai juice, since it was convenient and I didn't have the others. I mixed it in a HEAVY glass tumbler, then set it on the counter while I cleaned up a random mess.
About a minute or two later, I heard a sound much like a light bulb bursting. When I turned around, I saw that the glass had exploded, sending chunks of glass and juice flying in a near perfect circular shape. The diameter of the "explosion" was probably 8 feet. I'm glad I wasn't drinking it at the time.
I searched, but can't find an explanation of what happened. Anyone have any ideas?"

I mixed acai berry juice and creatine monohydrate. The glass exploded like a hand grenade. Can anyone explain? : AskReddit

haha. wow. i'd like to see why this reaction happened - maybe the drink had vinegar in it and the powder had some kind of baking soda as a filler ingredient?

Or much more likely, the dudes full of bullshit. Much more likely.

Yeah I agree, but it would be interesting if true. It's also possible the glass just came out of the dish washer and was super hot, and he threw cold liquid in it - i've had this happen to me before with thick tumblers..

Yeah probably was just a warm/hot glass, and he added really cold liquid to it.. still interesting, someone should experiment

Video or it didn't happen. If you were an entrepreneur you would have already replicated and put a link in the youtube description on where to buy acai with your link and state that it is only $3.99 so you would have hundreds of young guys buying it to blow shit up.

the acai juice was probably carbonated causing the explosion when it got shook around in the tumbler.

It's happened to me before but minus the creatine.

I've been making my workout shakes with Acai pulp, protien powder, and creatine for a while now.

No explosions...yet.

Funny thing is that a glass would not "explode".

Any rapidly dissolving / growing / foaming liquid would exit the easiest way - out of the top of the glass.

So either he had a temperature difference - as noted above. Or the glass was under tension already before that (happens with cheap industrial glassware)
