Does anyone do any work with HostGator's Affiliate Program? Have you had any success? I'm interested in getting involved, but wanted to hear if anyone else had seen any success with them.

Also: and this is completely hypothetical *wink* - Assume you have the .net or .info domain of a site such as HostGator. What repercussions could you expect if you referred typein traffic that was aimed at the .com to your affiliate link of the .com? Anyone see the ole C&D banstick coming down on you for that?
 


Hostgator affiliate program pays well but it sucks in my opinion. It took me 4 months to get the $500 they owed me. Finally got it last week
 
Aden, thanks for the heads up. I've heard from others that payouts may take a while as well. They have a Paypal option for payment. Did you use that or a check?
 
I market them through CJ, and although they allow ~60 days for each purchase to clear i always get the money.

They come highly recommended from me. CJ actually threatened to ban me about an issue with purchasing through my own link (i was actually purchasing for a 3rd party), so i contacted Hostgator they gave me the okay and with great satisfaction i forwarded the email to CJ!
 
There are a lot of mixed reviews about them here, which is one of the reasons why I haven't had our sales team approach them for advertising on WickedFire. I'd much rather not take on someone who has a lot of issues with affiliates and customers even if they can make us money, and instead take on companies that have pretty good standings with the industry. Every company, big and small has issues and people who love and hate them, but it seems the bigger you get, the shittier customer service gets, but at the same time I can understand it, because we have a lot of those issues here, and we don't even sell anything or have customers!
 
hostgator used to be number 1 for commissions, but now they are fucking nowhere. They are shit payers too. I'm waiting on a few thou after I stopped promoting them - its MONTHS now - fucking theives. Expect to get massive refunds on sales, and no response to ay q's u have except 'you have been dropped from the programme' - assholes.
 
I have an alternative for HG - my friend's company just started up an affiliate program. When I get the details I'll forward it to anyone that's interested (PM me so I have your info on file).

It's not a 14 year old with a reseller either, full time CEO with his own cabinets, on hand in the DC, own hardware, etc. :)
 
I've made a couple of hundred from them and always received my check on time, and Im in Australia.
