I don't understand why some many people still use Host Gator, They are the biggest POS hosting company ever, I have two AM friends that use them and complain 24/7, well FUCKING CHANGE HOSTING COMPANY'S ALREADY..

I use a $50/mo Virtual Server with Media Temple and could not be happier.

There is no way I'm losing money over something like hosting downtime, and you shouldn't either.

Your friends are idiots, that's why.

Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Hostgator is far into the top list of shared hosting solutions. Reliable & inexpensive. Oh I left out stacked with features and top notch support. Today is the first time I have seem then down in many, many years. And it was for like 10-15 minutes. That's pretty unbelievably reliable IMO.

For Dedicated, ThePlanet is the same deal, top notch + cheap. They are also Hostgator as noted above.

Please let us know what your friends complain about or if you're spouting bullshit as expected.

Had em, didn't like em, problematic quite often over the final year or so with them. I oddly have better luck with a shitty 40/month dedicated server. probably just me cuz hotgator is at the top of the list. And if a thousand people complain... whats that number to 100,000 who have great results.

Really never known of any excessive downtime with hostgator, all shared - and not shared hosting can and will go down.

Is there a product invented that can take a link and redirect it to Host B if Host A is down? This way you put a backup somewhere just in case this crap happens in the middle of the night.

How so?

Even with a cheap $50 dedicated Virtual Server your at least getting dedicated RAM and Bandwidth, and less susceptible to slowdowns when some noob pulls in 100k hits from digg with his latest copied XKCD on your shared server grid.

I owned a Web Design and Development company for about 5-6 years and I have worked with many hosts that clients come to me with (usually me switching them in the end) and the ones that gave me the most trouble and frequent calls from clients saying there site is down was, Dreamhost, Host Gator and Network Solutions.

From my experience even a shitty $3.99 a month godaddy hosting account had a better track record then the three I just mentioned.

I'm sure there was quite a few people that lost more then $50 today and wished they would have been with a better host.

Also with my personal experience Media Temple has been by far the most reliable and there customer service will make the others look like geek squad.

and it is back online now ! anyways I am transferring all my sites to LiquidWeb.

how fast do media temple reboot in emergencies? Is support 24/7???

There customer service center is open 24/7/365 and I've never been on hold for more then a minute, I think they actually say there average is less then 2 minutes or something.

In the support I found this about rebooting:

Plesk Reboot:

"Please allow up to 15 minutes for the reboot to complete when you use this method."

I love hostgator fist time it's been down in 4 years that i know of .. and i pay 9.95 a month and host a shit load of sites all run fast and support is kick ass

actually hostgator is good
but theirs affiliate system sucks big time!

Never used it but last time I checked they offered $100 commissions?

For shitty little blogs maybe, but if you're making a site which is going to get decent traffic then I can't see how dedicated RAM, less down time and the ability to actually host a site getting over 2k hits per day is a bad thing.

I'm sure for shitty blogs everyone would rather use HostGator (shared), because that's what it's for, but you can't use it for everything.
