Hosting 24 can suck my balls

I have had shared going passed 150k a month. I'm not dumb enough doing it anymore, but I have done it for several months.

In my experience WP and Jamula hog up so much that shared hosting accounts become sluggish and start spouting off 501 errors...

OP as much as I understand your pain you brought this on yourself.

$17 per month? You get what you pay for bro. Let this be your $28k worth lesson and be smarter from now on.

If you're looking for cheap hosting OP, I'm sorry if I sound like I'm selling, cause I'm not, I don't own the site, just a happy customer.

Hd-hosting, formerly cloudabove, do pretty good price plans. I pay $3 a month for pretty good spec shared hosting, their linux large package, never had a problem, no downtime, support is top notch. Message them if you're not getting that, I'm sure they could sort it for you.

(again, I don't own the site, or work there, sorry for making that sound like a sales pitch!)

fuck anything shared. serves you right for not going dedicated.

why would you fuck around especially when dealing with that much $$?

dont take the chance.

I don't get it, u lost 28k because ur website was down for 24 hours? ur business makes 10,220,000 a year and u pay $17 per month for hosting and when ish hits the fan you use live chat support?

Anyone that can't see this for straight BS needs to hit me up, I have some beautiful land for sale just off The Everglades...

thank you for the responses about the hosting. I know what you are all saying in regards to the price I am paying and yes I am not paying much, I do have backups just not of the dns records and email accounts I had setup... it is more of a time related issue.

the sites were down and there is no BS about the income per day... Admittedly that is total sales not total profit however it is still alot of income to lose per day when you are paying people to process orders, get the stock sent to couriers and processing warranties. It all adds up quickly. The profit would be about 35% after expenses and taxes.

I have since found a managed hosting solution with the planet so for $400 per month I am getting a cloud solution...this should give me the redundancy I need... just a lesson learnt as one of you said... dont skimp on hosting

So now you are going from $17 a month to $400 a MONTH?

OK, NOW I call BULLSHIT.

STFU and GTFO :action-smiley-052:

call bullshit... I am calling it a good learning experience... I spoke to a guy at the planet and he told me it was in my best interest to get a server setup which handled my sites. I then asked is there a way to make it so that The server gets backed up regularly and it was decided that it was in my best interest that I had 2 servers, one as a backup and another as the live server.

I had a good think about what was said by others on here and I agree with what was being said... it sounds stupid me spending $17 and my sites doing so well...I drive a nice car because I make the money... why does my site have to be restricted and/or be in an environment that does not suit its income...

I guess I just see it as an insurance policy. I will see how this goes. I have been told if there are any issues I can get 24 hour support and pay for things to be fixed if they are broken... alot better than what I was getting...

I cant understand how you guys can trust third party fuckups! Whatever happened to the real hosts in town?

man i had a pizza server for several months and i dont know what are you talking about 2 server and how is it your best interest.

Couse 1 pizza server for website only could be enough to hold 2 yahoos Also - 1 normal (not expansive even) pizza server 99.99% of the times has a dual raid hard drives which means your shit is backed up automatic and there is absolutely no point what so ever getting another server as a back up..

So i dont know if your feeding us horse shit or someone feeding you.

And by the way if your not absolutely sure and know networks and have many ways and ideas on how to use the server to its full capacity - i would not get one its a simple waste of money ..

Just use host monster they are simply great company.

basically what I did was I contacted the planet after doing some research on hosting providers. I then spoke to a guy in sales there.. I told him what had happened and that I needed a good solution. He told me my best bet was to get a dedicated server and that it would cost 300 for that which included 5 dedicated ip's, 250gb hdd, 4gb of ram and the security / monitoring service...If I needed any help I could send a ticket and they would help me out...If I needed urgent assistance I could give them a call...

I then asked about backups. I was told no that backups was a seperate issue and that was something that i could get with a basic server for $99.

I was told plain that it was a good idea to have 2 servers. 1 for backup and one for serving my sites. This seemed to make sense so I got it setup.

Ones again .. look since you seems to have no simple clue about dedicated server .. just give up the idea and deal with normal hosting they would be great for long time. dedicated servers arent as easy as they sound. one thing i promise you the support you thinks you'll be getting from them . you will get but very limited for very simple situation like - please restart my server - please help me set up that. they wont though help you with the really big isssue they will require money.. hourly basis

Now if they told you 250gb HD for a server that Low -- but that also understandable . because dedicated server come with dual raid Hard drive which means what ever material goes on 1 hard drive goes automatically on the second one.
So NO you dont need a second server to back your shit up and your being lied too .. servers are build with backup ..

Now i dont see why you need to deal with all that crap you obviously have no idea about it. how about get normal host that works fine like 1and 1 or host monster that i previously mentioned. read more learn more about dedicated servers and then if you'll see you need one badly and have the knowledge to use one. get dedicated server - whats the rush?

I smell troll. If youre doing said numbers and dont have redundancy servers for failover or at least a slave backup server you did this to yourself. Talk to any reputable host and get something set up. Its going to cost you quite a bit more but you wont find youtself in this position.

Shlomikalfa I guess I paniced... All I knew was that I had sites down, I finally got it backup and from what I could tell / see I couldn't trust this hosting provider, not only that but I was worried about being burnt by another shared hosting provider. I figured if I turn around and spend money on a dedicated server it would be smarter...

I didn't want to get let down again and from what I could see the planet seemed reasonable and quite knowledgable... eg the guy I spoke to seemed to know his shit and from what I was reading they were a good provider... you are right though I do need to read up on it more and go from there....

maybe shared is more the way to go and dedicated is over the top... I don't know I could only go on the information I was fed at the time... and gut instinct... it helped me in business before... when it comes to hosting I just have no idea plan and simple...
