I'm not a hosting expert but instead of using 10 separate hosts can you just do this?

-find a low cost virtual server hosting plan for unlimited domains at $10 to $50/mth
-pay for 9 extra IP's on that virtual server, extra $30 to $40 per month?
-put 100 domains per IP

It may cost a bit more but if you are making $20k to $50k from them per year that's still low operating cost. The benefit is easier managment and using 1 wordpress MU install for all domains yet still get the "spread" of multiple IP's.

I'm no expert on hosting so maybe the domain experts can tell us whether this is a viable option or would Google still smell a MFA farm.
 


Well, it looks like we need to find a way to make these sites seem like they aren't spammy. So first lets add a little more length to the articles. Maybe throw in some more useful content ;). Next, switch up the designs. I may just make my own which is easy to customize, and change it up that way. Of course it will take you more time, but maybe you will do better in the serps. And your chance of getting banned has diminished. Thoughts?
 
What company are you using for web hosting? The name of [2] good virtual web hosting companies that allow multiple domains at no extra charge would be great! I use Pair Networks, but they charge $5.00 setup fee for each domain on the same IP, but no monthly fee. Each extra IP number is only $1.00 per month. That said, setting this up with them on 1,000 domains is $5K up front. Ouch... Your web hosting company suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance...
 
There are plenty of virtual web hosts that allow unlimited domains per account. I use Liquidweb. They're not the cheapest but their service and tech support has been excellent for me.

The super low cost hosts typically do not have phone support. I like to call and talk to someone immediately if there is a problem not submit a support ticket and hope someone responds.

Dekalog... Do you have one of Liquid's Virtual Server Accounts? It's $60 or $100 bucks per month, but you seem to get unlimited domains and unique ip numbers for the same monthly. Is that what you are using?
 
You guys can get on with HostICan's St Patricks Promo if you are transferring. Pick up hosting for a year for $55.89 with unlimited domains.

The only problem, of course, is you have to pay a lot more upfront on your credit card. Once you sign up under their St Patricks promo coupon (auto-inserted), you need to email their billing department with an additional coupon and request the $40 transfer host discount (if you are transferring).

While dreamhost is a great deal, you won't ever get your 2TB of bandwidth. As soon as I hit ~175 GB/month, they throttled my site because it was 'impacting' other users on the server. However, by the time you are doing this volume, you should be making more than enough to move to a better solution.

You would want to have each set of sites at least on a different subnet of a class B IP address block (class B means only first two octets are the same, class C means first 3 octets are the same).

Example.....which set of IPs looks more suspicious:

Class C:
123.123.21.1
123.123.21.3
123.123.21.5

....or......

Class B:
231.231.54.22
231.231.33.44
231.231.65.66


Beyond this detail, it would be good just to spread out your business over 10 different hosting providers. Say you had all your sites on a dreamhost account (just an example, not an endorsement). If dreamhost bites the dirt for a day (which they did last year), then your earnings are cut from 100% to 0% for their downtime. If somehow dreamhost is notified about your blogs and decides to quit hosting them, you're earnings are down from 100% to 0% for the amount of time it takes to set them up somewhere else and get the DNS changes propegated. It's just the basic common sense rule to not put your eggs all in one basket.

Thanks for the info, I'm sure buying the cheaper plans they put us on a slower server anyway, i do see slow downs from time to time

Actually, I am a customer going back before their new virtual server accounts. I'm on an older virtual box with less accounts and more memory etc. They no longer offer it; they grandfathered me but I pay $20 more per month than the current advertised rate to be on it. I like the speed and quality over price is important to me.

You do get unlimited domains but you will need to purchase extra IPs if you want them. I'm not sure about the cost but I think it's around $5 per month per extra IP.
 
Thanks for the details Shaggz. You're right I guess there's no way to simplify the maintenance more than you suggest.

Another thing i verified:

When I've added additional domains to my dreamhost account, it gives each one a different IP. I've confirmed this with 6 domains. They're on different class B blocks, as well.
 
Yep, I have around 20 sites hosted at Dreamhost and most of them have different IP addresses.
Use promo code TITO50 to waive the setup fee...
 
When you use wordpress, which SEO titles do you go for? When I set up my first wordpress blog I went for the one which is url/year/month/date/title. Is this good enough for the SE's?
