How did you create your company's name?

I had the worst time thinking of a name, both for my law firm and the subsequent companies I've started. I almost hired a "naming service" to figure out a name but they wanted $3000 to name it....so I just came up with 5 names (mostly my initials with buzz words after them) and then tested them with friends.

There are also a few sites out there that can help you name your company. I'd check first to see if the domain is available, then see if its trademarked on the USPTO site.

I used to keep it simple. Find key on keyboard that's a word, add "Networks" "Solutions" etc after it.

Example:

Insert Networks
Num Solutions
or even put a few together.

Scroll Home Solutions
Delete End Networks
I find the most distinguished names have "Goat" appended to them. So let me suggest SoftwareGoat. Good news is that the domain IS available!

Seriously though, you want the .com of whatever you pick. So if you can't find a related name, just invent a cool sounding word. Many companies have gone that route with success.

put all the ideas together regarding your comapny category, pick up the first letters and rearrange them to make a new word, take it as your company,s name, its all about randomization ;)

You might take long to start your business the way you are searching for your company name and domain. When confronted with creating a company name, the majority of the business owners fall into one of two groups...
1. Those trying to resolve a naming problem
2. Those trying to express their company image
When naming your company, make it cool and make it simple and un-confusable. Clear your company's value. While you can choose a name that express what your company does, think a name that suggest an emotion. Emotional reactions are difficult to forget. Therefore, before sending out needs for company naming suggestions, first of all verify if your aim is simply a short-term effective name or a long-standing build-able trade name. The first is functional, while the second is foundational.

My one company, I took the first 2 letters of my 3 kids and formed the name Etaris, which I thought was decent and something a little different. Make it personal and fun, and it is also a great ice breaker when talking with clients on how you got your name. It makes you more human and gets the conversation flowing much better as well.

i was high on acid in the middle of a hot, flat desert, wandering around looking for food, water, or more acid, when i realized every time i went in the direction the wind was blowing, good things happened.

thus i named my company "leeward bound" corp. it means to be headed in the direction of the wind.
