First of all, ignore everyone who tells you "ebooks don't make money". Tell that to my ex- boses to pocked $200M on their IPO pimping glorified ebooks here:
Home | The Corporate Executive Board
Anyone who thinks serious businesses don't buy ebooks should tell the 75+% of the Fortune 500 who pay about $25,000/year for access to ebooks at ^^ that they aren't spending there money correctly....
Now....let's continue.
First, if you're going to write an ebook I would suggest the following:
Stick to one of the 3 major hungry market niches:
1) Relationships
2) Money & Business
3) Health
Second, PROVIDE SOME REAL FUCKING SOLUTIONS!!
As an example, let's say you are going to write an ebook on internet marketing. Don't sell that same old regurgitated rubbish! Pick a real problem and provide solid solutions THAT ARE NICHE SPECIFIC.
Here's an example. Let's say you write an ebook on how Doctors or Lawyers can lower their customer acquisition costs by at least 10% using a few easy-to-understand online marketing techniques.
All you have to do is provide a few, WORKABLE, EASY to IMPLEMENT strategies that can show doctors or lawyers how to get a few more leads or customers a months FOR THEM TO FEEL LIKE THEIR MONEY WAS WELL SPENT.
That's what people don't understand. If you write a NICHE-SPECIFIC ebook, targeting professions that have HIGH MARGINS (one extra law or physician clients can net them upwards of $10k in revenue), you are happy and they are happy.
I know a guy who wrote a glorified ebook on "productivity" who netted $4M his first year on line. He simply went to a bunch of companies and gave the ebook a way to their corporate clients. He got 100k downloads that first year a built a killer list along with mega backend sales through linking to specific sites in the ebook, etc., etc.
The point is that this is the information economy and there is nothing more powerful that high-margin, digital products that can be sold on a recurring, residual revenue model basis.
This is probably not the forum for you to discuss ebooks because most people here are more into affiliate marketing than selling their own products.
Lastly, purpose yourself to learn as much as you can about sales funnel automation. That includes:
-one-click one time offers
-front end sales
-back end sales
-cross sales
-up sells
The main point here is:
-pick a sub niche within an ever-green "hungry market"
-make sure your sub niche is made up of businesses (or consumers) with high disposable income
-create an information product where you provide a few solutions to some very specific problems.
If you are going the IM route, don't just write about "online marketing". Create an ebook that spells out 5, 10, 15 specific ways to increase landing page conversions by at least 10%. Or write one that includes at least 10 different ways you can increase email open rates to above 25%. Or, write one one how you can help small businesses reduce PPC costs by at least 15%.
See what I'm getting here? Specific problems, specific solutions = specific cash....
Good luck...
