How do networks get direct relationships with advertisers?

To me it seems the good networks have tons of relationships & connections so if they want an offer direct they can easily get it.

Other networks have biz dev teams but they seem to only search for contact info via the offer LP, who is, linkedin, etc. Seems impossible to compete with the people that have real relationships.

How do all the little networks think they can compete? Brokering offers is just retarded. Am I missing something or is there some database of advertisers anyone can contact?

Any good 'little' network is probably being run by somebody who has been a very high volume affiliate and already has lots of relationships with advertisers because they were running with them directly before they even decided to start a network. And/or they'd also go to trade conventions and do everything else you mentioned to start making contacts and connections.

Maybe you've heard of the term barriers to entry? Most businesses cannot be started with one person in their basement, and starting an affiliate network is no different.

They hire people with those relationships or make them themselves through things like what you mentioned above, asking around, and crosspubbing and then meeting the direct contact at trade shows ect.

No there's no magic book of secret contacts to get all the offers on the internet at great pricing and you can't just start a network not knowing ANYONE in the industry. One of the first things I learned working at an affiliate network is that this business is all about relationships on all sides of the industry.

You would be surprised with enough time and ranking the advertisers usually contact the smaller networks. I mean dating companies, ringtones etc. types of advertisers have media buying employees that work with networks and find new ones that seem worthwhile working with.

network and push volume, advs will come to you if you put yourself out there and actually can make them money instead of just talk. No adv cares about 10 leads a day on a $10 offer, the key is being able to offer them volume and quality. As everyone else said, barrier to entries ;)

Face time at trade shows, reaching out. But, like someone mentioned, you also have to be able to show volume. That was the hardest part when we started up. Had lots of advertiser contacts, but few affiliates to push volume.

Even as a little network, we receive voicemails from new advertisers all the time. Mostly from word of mouth, which goes along with trade shows, affiliates, other advertisers recommending you, etc. But also searching for specific offers through the ways mentioned and more.

Some advertisers have media buying reps that will reach out to you, some are at the trade shows, some you run into by knowing other people in the industry and basically networking with people.

If you need to find the contact info for a specific offer sometimes it can be a little tricky depending on the offer. If you get to know some of the other network owners they will throw you a bone if needed. Heck I guess most of it is just a mix of everything.

Gotta watch out though... The deadbeat advertisers contact you as well. Gotta love them - want traffic but then don't pay their bills. :angryfire:

Wow I see some of the more obvious aspects of business like talking to people has alluded some.

Its quite insane the amount of contacts you make from just being in the industry for several years. Go to a bunch of shows, have drinks with a bunch of people, someone always knows someone. The power of networking is probably the most valuable assets a person/company can have.
