Hello everyone, I am new here and pretty new to affiliate marketing. (Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post)

I recently got hooked into the online industry and are really fascinated with all the ways to make money. It was information overload really. :conehead:

So I got myself started with a couple of blogs of my interest to try things out and see where I can take it(3 websites to be exact). Well, things didn't turn out so well. I'm a month in so far and I am earning ... $0.10 cents(and that is before counting the cost of the domain,hosting, etc. I was expecting it would at least cover the costs). :crap:

I really need advise on how do you monetize a blog site. What am I doing wrong? Am I expecting too much out of blog sites? Can anyone help me? :1zhelp:

Site #1: diablo3quest.com
It's a blog site about the upcoming video game diablo 3. It's getting decent traffic about 50 visits per day and 100 page view.
I tried monetize it with adsense banner ads and MaxBounty sidebar CPA ads. Also a page to buy amazon affiliate products.
adsense - $0.07 cents
MaxBounty - $0
Amazon - $0

Site #2: timetodemotivate.com
It's more like a picture site of funny pictures ... Bascially I just got a lot of funny pictures in my computer. The site gets bout 20 visitors per day with 3000 page view so far.
This is purely MaxBounty Banner and CPA ads.
MaxBounty - $0.

Site #3: recipetv.net
This is a site I brought actually. For cheap.
It gets about 10 visitors per day.
This site is adsense and alittle clickbank ad on the side.
Adsense - $0.03
Clickbank - $0

The short answer is you need more traffic. The niches you've chosen (video game information, time wasting/boredom sites) are low monetization niches. To be successful, you've got to build a lot of traffic--as in tens of thousands of page views per day.

It is pretty early to monetize any blog when it is receiving only 50 visitors a day.

Hold on till you get decent traffic.

@Scutter, Seotower I see. I guess starting out is going to take alot more than this.
Any advise on what else I could do to these sites? How should I build traffic as a beginner etc?

*Also some guy was telling me his (similar) site with 1k visitors a month was generating $500 bucks a month because it's a "unique" niche. Is he bullsh*ting me? Lol

In the beginning stages, you should only focus on getting traffic, not monetizing.

42 Timeless Ideas for Attracting More Visitors to Your Website

I think your diablo 3 site has the most potential at the moment with the game release coming up.

- Write good content and spread it
- Post on relevant sites / forums with a link to your site in your sig
- You can get a lot of traffic through youtube.
- SEO the site

Not easy to start a site from scratch, takes a lot of patience. But yea focus on traffic for now.

I am gonna do a thorough walkthrough of the diablo site later.

For starters, ditch Adsense and MaxBounty, make the site diablo3 and diablo 3 only.

monetization

Most blogs are usually monetized by setting up advertising. Unless, you're selling something or acting as an affiliate, advertising usually works but you need a lot of traffic for decent profits to come in.

Another thing - money also depends on the kind of ads which are displayed which is directly related to the niche. If you have a finance blog, you will earn more money as compared to a simple movie blog because there are major advertisers in this niche.

There's another great way to monetize a blog or a website - use a content locking system. You can install a very simple script which basically locks your content page. Every time someone visits that page, the visitor will only be able to see the content after he or she has completed a simple action such as a form fill or a survey.

It's a fairly new technique. You can check out some details here for one of the systems that I use on one of my blogs. It is new but seems quite promising (I have made about twice the money than I did from Adsense).

Alright smashshell,

Off the top of my head, let me give you some pointers for the Diablo website.

- There is some problem with your image folder!

Owing to which thumbnails in your post are not loading!

For instance Diablo 3 Area - News, Release Date, Skills and everything else D3 doesn't take up to an image but rather a page with the CSS stripped.

- Mailing List

Sign up for an account at Mailchimp.com and integrate it with the Newsletter in bottom left, right now I am not sure how you've set it up, but I'd recommend a double opt-in form.

- Fix Onsite Duplicate Content

Category Archive for "Updates" | Diablo 3 Quest
Category Archive for "Updates" | Diablo 3 Quest

Go to the same page!

- Need More Content

You need MORE CONTENT. A lot of CONTENT!

Look for news/press releases related to the game and just dive head first into writing content!

And lastly,

mindreader90 - FUCK YOU for posting your shitty website and misguiding a newbie! Go fuck yourself!

Why the fuck is everything going into diablo 3area and not staying on your site?

@Dr_Ngo
Thank you for the info. I will read it right away.

@emp
So I shouldn't do adsense or things like that?

@mikeshinobi
Hehe, thanks! I did some of the design, but it's more like customizing a template.

@BlogHue
Shoot! Thanks for that. I did not notice they weren't working.
What is the mailchimp thing? My newletter signup right now it's just a plugin from wordpress to store people's email.
Also, mindreader90's website is wrong? lol

@emp
They are? Where are you seeing that? :confused:

*Edit - Fixed the thumbnails :)
