How does one automate browsing activities?

I'm quite a moron in this area, so here we go:
I'd like to have some program (or a programming language that can do this) with which I can let the program do any web interaction. Stuff like posting links to a website. Maybe some blackhat guys or spammers would know something like this. Does something like this exist? I'd guess it does, but have no clue where to find it. I'm glad for any help.

You could also look at Selenium for Firefox. It's more advanced and built for web app unit testing but, if memory serves me correctly, could be used for your purposes.
