I want to make a fairly simple site that just requires you to fill in a few pieces of info such as username and email and then once submitted takes you to another page where you can choose which offer to complete.

Sort of like those free stuff sites but much more simple.

I just need to be able to access the database regarding the username/email entries easily.

How hard is it to make a site like this? How much would it cost if someone were to make it in your opinion?

Don't know how newb you are or what your long term goals/scalability projections for this are, but:

1. Emails/names: Are you planning on re-using these? I'm assuming you are, in which case you should get your hands on either aweber or getresponse to be able to build your list and reach out to it legally with a high deliverability to inbox ratio. If you get someone to build this from scratch, and give you a self hosted mailer system you'll have problems later (from supression lists, to categorizing/editing/adding lists, and low inbox success).

2. If you do use aweber or getresponse, you easily set your own fields, and thank you page (the page they go to after they click submit, which in your case will have your other offers or whatever).

3. Getting someone to plug your form on a html page, giving it a quick set of graphics/title/calls to action for the form and uploading to your hosting should cost you peanuts.

If you're thinking long term, get yourself a real double optin list management system. If the whole purpose is just to get them through a step before they see other offers as incentive of some kind without the need of managing your list, you might get away with doing self hosted stuff.

This task would require a team of engineers, an accountant, a secretary, and at least a janitor.

Essentially other than the specific design factor, you could saying it lightly install a message board in less than 5 minutes on a hosting provider that gives you cpanel + fantastico... but the key is knowing what the hell to do afterwards. :D

Janitor?? Yea I hear they need to clean up the usernames and passwords.

But seriously, it is fairlly simple to create something like that. You could use jsp or even one of the free hosting solutions available on the internet.

I have better idea as to what to expect now. Thanks for the insight NCmedia & Dave.

As I suspected. The digging has already begun to connect my web site tubez to the interwebs.
