Yeah. Most state laws now say that all children age 7-18 are to attend school everyday. I think generally a student is considered truant if they have missed 3 unexcused/unverified days in a row, 5 unexcused/unverified days in a semester, or 7 unexcused/unverified days in a school year.

Yeah, I remember Texas. If you were 5 mins late for class, the phone would be ringing at your parents house. I even remember teachers phoning my mom, because they didn't see me taking enough books home after school. hehe, they soon realized they phoned the wrong lady. :) I'll never forget the earful my mom gave them a few times. I never did homework, but got better grades than most of the kids there.

And don't get me started on their stupid Saturday detentions, in-school suspensions, and all that shit. What an absolute joke. And then we shoot these kids out into the real world, and expect them to be productive citizens who benefit society? Not likely. Even when they're 18 and in their last year of high school, they need to get a written permission slip just to take a piss, because if they don't have one, a security guard will stop them in the hallway, and drag them into the principals office. What a joke.
 
taught myself coding, networking and server side stuff - then had an amazing mentor teach me everything he knew about the business and marketing. without him my life would truly be about 100x times worse than it is now.

not really that he "taught" me that much but by hanging out with him and him showing me his landing pages etc - he made me a beleiver and allowed me to move fwd on blind knowledge.

i love these threads I used to read them when I worked for the biggest asshole boss in the world and would be the best motivation to quit.

I am not at all surprised with the results of the poll thus far.
The only thing you need is a dream and sheer determination, the rest is out there for the taking.
Mentor, what fucking mentor, not necessary.
 
I don't have a specific mentor that I talk with throughout the week or anything, but I do have people that are far more experienced than me in IM that I chat with every now and then. I PM random people all the time on this board and I ask them questions and even post questions publicly here that I'm sure are considered "noob" but I don't really care if I sound ignorant because I am ignorant. It's important to reach out to people who have already done what you are trying to do. Why would you want to go at it alone when someone else has already done it?

I've even shared my business model, my LP's, etc. and I've gotten some great advice in return. If you have already put in a lot of hard work yourself then you'd probably be surprised how many people will be willing to look over what you've done and offer advice. Just don't be that dipshit that asks generic questions like "what offer is hot right now?" and you should be fine.

Then last year BigWill mentored me and I gotta say even if you already have a solid understanding there's still stuff someone that's working on another level can show you and in the process light a fire under your ass that isn't easily put out.

I've taught myself a lot of things. In relation to financial freedom, which I have not accomplished, I've been able to progress thanks to a couple of specific mentors.

Being able to teach yourself to financial freedom, or in any other capacity, is one hell of a thing to be proud of. But after realizing how much value my mentors have provided, I would wish the opportunity to be molded by a mentor on every single one of you.

Thats what school is for: to create sheep that will fit well into society.

school is not to make you become a person who thinks for yourself, school makes you become a person who regurgitates what society tells you.

Too bad the time has changed and you can't just simply live on an assembly line doing one task for the rest of your life.

That's a shitty way to look at it.

School is whatever you decide it is. If you decide your there to get a 9/5 job, then yeah; its probably going to work out that way for you.

If you go in the pursuit of knowledge, or just to get a decent grounding in some field, its only going to benefit you.


Everybody here seems to love hating on higher education, and I guess thats a symptom of the 90 million fucktards driving themselves in to debt so they CAN get 9-5 jobs.

None of that changes the fact that an education - for whatever reason acquired - is always beneficial. (Even if that end benefit is not directly financial.)
