First off, I don't give a shit if you do your own taxes so don't make a useless post saying "$0".

My accountant charged me $3,250 for doing my corporation taxes and another $3,000 for my personal taxes...this just seems high.

What did you pay your accountant for your 2008 taxes?

Seriously though, that does seem high. About $1500 more than I paid total for both services. But there's really too many variables (at least there seems to be) to accurately gauge what's fair.

My corporate taxes were simple as hell. All expenses were on 2 credit cards and I sent him all my bank statements.

My personal taxes were a little more "complex" I guess because they had all my home office writeoffs and shit like that. Either way it seems sky high.

$1500 a year total for corporate and personal. Includes filing the quarterly reports also. No state income tax or returns in my state.

I seem to remember you bought a house this past year, correct? Hm. Even with that, it does seem excessive. If what you say is true, my taxes are much, MUCH more complex than yours. How did you come across this guy? By recommendation?

I can easily beat this, one shitty accounting company tried to take me for $34,000 and was surprised after I told them I would be going with someone else.

Woah, I just read back through this and realized you paid $3,000 + $3,250. I only saw the $3,250 the first time. Yeah, dude. I can't say that I know much about accountants' fees in different areas and I don't know where you are but that seems very high for the complexity of your return(s). My accountant is pretty much top-notch and is located in metro-Atlanta, so it's not some podunk town. I'd give your boy a call and get some kind of itemized or otherwise detailed explanations of the charges.

I just switched to a guy that charged $3700, but he saved me 25k compared to the other guy that charged $300. So for me it was worth it

Accountant Fees

I have a law practice in the Midwest. My accountant prepares and files my quarterly taxes and my final return for less than $700 every year.

That is high. I pay roughly $800 for my personal and corporate taxes combined.

$300 for business and personal, but I bust everything into quickbooks and email him the .pdf's...he basically just fills out the form and handles my depreciation, cuz I don't get that shit.

Also, he got me money back three years in a row because I'd overpaid (not taken all the exemptions/allowances/wtfevah) I could have in previous years.

Not this year tho. :(

Dude have you ever heard of Quicken and Turbo Tax Geez I have my trained monkeys press the send button and my taxes are done with Audit protection which is 50 dollars grand total of 200 dollars. My Corp Tax are different but again all done automated. Accountants love to charge more based on how much you made trust me if you make a million a year its going to be alot no matter what even though it takes the same amount of time to file someone making 60k a year with tons of schedules and deperation and interests.
