The largest loss I've incurred has been $7.50 on my third day of affiliate marketing. I've been actively marketing for the past three or four weeks, and have been spending $250 daily on advertising as of late. Even so, no significant losses to report here as everything has been profitable.

I learned my lesson and no longer start a new ppc campaign before I go to bed.

I just thought of an old school one. Back when I did e-mail marketing.
We had 2 US servers. One directed our other mailers. One was the backup server. Overall, there was probably $65k worth of data on it. Maybe a little more.
I was getting out of mailing, so we had just allowed the server that controlled our mailers to lapse. We were keeping the backup server so that we could sell off a copy of the data before we left(it was incredible/legit data).
Well, we had bought the backup server from a reseller. Who apparently rented out servers to compliant mailers without permission. And then one of his compliant mailers botched a header. REALLY badly. And the spam complaints started coming in.
Then the server company shut down EVERY one of the resellers 100+ servers and refused to reboot/restore any of them. And since I bought through a reseller, I had no standing to take control/responsibility for our server.
So after 3 days of being down, they formatted all the servers. Including our $65k+ of data...off our BACKUP server...and that was that.

Mid $xx,xxxx when a certain VOIP company decided they were going to close shop and not tell their affiliates, employees, or customers. Hundreds of thousands of people woke up to no dial tones...nice huh.

I know of another affiliate that was hit even harder from the same company during this debacle. The company has since reemerged with a new name but the same customer list that we generated for them. Scumtastic!
