All right, I've been checking out affiliate marketing for a while now. I'm starting out with article marketing because I'm on a low budget, but I just had a question about using a website (I will of course create a website, rather multiple ones, in the future.)

I'm just wondering how much money you guys would reccommend having saved up to invest in the website, domain, adwords, ect., before moving onto using websites for marketing?

If your on a tight budget, you may want to start with about $500 (without the adwords...) and see what you can accomplish without the adwords first and then should you make sales or what have you then you can perhaps bring on adwords with the money you got from the commissions?

I would suggest you do:

1. Setup your site (domain, design, etc...)
2. Try without adwords (as they can get expensive, depends on the market your going after)
3. Make a sale or 2 and then kick the adwords into shape?

-- you can always start off with more cash... and start adwords straight away... just saying it might be better to start them later.

$20 got me started. lots of people start with nothing. you don't really need capitol depending on how you choose to start. a lot of adult sponsors will give you hosting, content, etc if you promote there program.

Ok, thank you for the input guys. I think I'm going to go with article marketing and use a free blog for now (when posting on ezinearticles, cuz you can't directly link to affiliates.) Once I make a little bit of money, I'll try out a website without adwords and then go from there. Well, take it easy guys.

I got started with 80 bucks.. hosting is cheap

1and1 also gives you about 200$ in vouchers for Adcenter, yahoo and google.

I would place my affiliate link for 1and1 here but scared to get banned :P

$18 got me started with a website and hosting. You don't technically need a lot of money to get started in this business. Affiliate Marketing gets more expensive the deeper in you get (obviously), but you'll be making more $$$ so it won't matter.

And mudger is correct: signing up with 1and1 (1&1 Internet Inc. - Web Hosting Services and Domain Name Registration) registration/hosting will get you some decent coupons to use with google, yahoo and MSN. Plus, I believe 1and1 gives you 5 free domain names... if they're still running that offer. I use 1and1 for all my websites.

Best of luck.

i am new to affiliate marketing too and i am probably purchased a couple of info on how to do them. as for domain, yes, you can go to 1and1 like mudger said. or i found one website that i saw on a magazine ad. the link is Netfirms, Free Web Hosting, Domain Names for Small Business

if you go here, you can spend $10 for a whole year of hosting and it includes 2 free domains. it actually cost 120 dollars but for the first year it is only 10 dollars. so hopefully, you can make enough money from affiliate programs or your own product to cover the next year.

well, goodluck to you.

Arnie

Ok, thanks for all the help and suggestions. I'm checking out 1and1 right now. I'm not on the computer at my house or I would probably try to get started. My computer got a bit messed up. I reformatted it and for some reason my disc drive is only scanning half of the discs that I put into it, so my graphics drivers aren't installed. I know this is off topic, haha.

Anyway, what type of hosting would you guys reccommend getting for starting out? I am not extremely knowledgable, I know a bit of HTML and I can pick it up quickly (I learned it in the past, but haven't used it for a while so I'm rusty.) I don't really know any other programming and what not. Thanks guys.

I started with $150 for domain, hosting & traffic. I first started with adsense arbi and after the first two months (doing well) I moved to affiliate stuff. That was back in Oct of '06 and I was only spending $100 on traffic my first two months. Last Month I spent $1k on traffic and this month I plan on spending over $2k. That is all from money I made online, I just reinvest most of my profits.

if you are really strapped, just open up some free wordpress/blogger hosted blogs and find some ppc coupons - like for adcenter. do your homework and drive traffic to it. adcenter traffic converts really well comparitively too. good luck.

Start with 1and1's beginner hosting package and work your way up from there. I believe it's like $3 a month plus a few free domains.

If you have any other questions, just ask. :D

All right, I got my computer back up and running good now. It's actually running better than it was before, haha. Anyway, it's a bit late and I've got some homework to attend to for tonight, so I will pick up on this tomorrow afternoon, because I have school in the morning.

Anyway, thanks for all of the input, it's been a great help. I think I'll go with the $3 1and1 hosting package when I find a niche that I think will do well. I will use some free blogs from blogger and pursue article marketing to get some more money to invest in the domains and what not. Well, take it easy.

Try this if you have just a lil money i bet it will be a while before you have anything coming in, try using digg to bring in visitors without paying shit. That means you are going to have to get good at writing content which is something that i bet you can figure out pretty quickly. word of advice design your blog in a way that you can collect email adresses from the flood of traffic that you are going to have coming to your website. Then turn around and rape that list. I dont know what niche you are in but i know you have your own unique angle to do this. You can specialise before you get into things like adwords. :) cheers.
edit -- more useful posts

sorry for having been so vague..
Go after whatever nice you are by creating a wordpress blog then find as many articles related to your niche. Then have some personality in whatever articles you post. In a way you make them funny or just different from all that other corporate crap out there. Have some pizzaz..
Vague note: when some guy called dwayne johnson joined the wwf and tried to thank people for a chance at wrestling he got booooed.. but when he came out wearing shades and shouting... I AM THE ROOOOCKK.. or whatever he was shouting he had mothers and their daughters(over 18 only :)) throwing him their underwear (you catch my drift)
if you do this over and over again and make it a habit you should collectively have a crazy mailing list that you can over and over market to without spending a peny.
Then only thing that you are going to be using is your creative ability through writing content which you can rehard and use it through following this technique on aojon.com blog here. There are so many ways i beleive you can start as a newbie but the trick is this dont let yourself be pulled into too many directions which is tough. You want to master one thing then once you have that down i.e ppc , or s.e.o or blogging move on to the next thing.

Ha!!! there i am starting to post more useful info on this forum. My posts are going to get better as we go on, i have had it with posting useless junk. :)

Ok, thanks a bunch on that post. I'd have to say it's one of the more inspiring and helpful ones I have gotten on this question, haha. +rep! Take it easy

On how much money you need, i am not sure. Heres what i would do
I would chat with 5$ submissions and send him an aim at geneg88(he owns webmastorlabor after you figure what direction you want and how many articles its going to cost you. Then i would sign up with this guys midPhase Web Hosting - Advanced Web Hosting for $7.95 per Month) they are fucking kick ass cause they have unmetered bandwidth on their pro accounts which is like 11 bucks a month. Then when gene starts sending you the articles, rewrite them :). Dont get mad gene but as much as i would love to lie to you, no ghost writer can copy your personality and your knowledge of the market. See heres my theoretical look at it, if you are going to be submitting your articles to digg, reddit or wherever else, unless your articles and headlines evoke emotions from their readers you are fucked. Check out my man drudge from the Drudge Report heres one head line "COLLEGE PROTESTORS HURL OBJECTS AT KARL ROVE" instead of "karl love attacked".The headline is specific and catches my eye.Catch my drift, if not pick up some cosmopolitan or national enquirer and check out how some of those copy writers write their headlines. The guys at webmastor labor should help with the grunt work of looking for articles all over the net and writing quality articles, it might cost you money but you seriously have to pick what battles you can win, you either waste time researching or rewriting or inducing some of the written articles with your personality and some pizzaz.. :) As diorex and some of the other veterans here posted, you need to invest something, theres nothing for free. Hope i dont come off too vague...
Your Induced personality on the articles should set you apart from the rest of the technical boring articles out there. :) Thanks Nick

There another post that i think has some value. :) lol hope that helps Krtzu.
Note to self : sign up for 5$submissions affiliate program. :) All this plugging, gene we need to talk :) :)

if you reinvest most of your profit, how do you profit?

I think pretty much anything goes here as far as posting. That's the environment feel I've gotten, and that I've heard other members say. Lol.. but yeah thats the only thing pretty much that's great with 1&1, other then that I would have to say fuck them lol

You re-invest long enough until you're pulling in serious figures, then you can safely skim off the top. That number depends on who you are, but growth is all about reinvesting your dolla bills.
