One of my sites generates leads which I sell for £15 each.

I'm thinking I might approach the company that orders the most and offer them the opportunity to have their phone number on the page as well, for a fee, as I know they're looking for more business.

The phone number would decrease the amount of email leads I generate, but then again, some people prefer to just call a company straight away, rather than fill in a call back form, which could make up for it.

I intend on putting a phone number up that just goes to voicemail for me to actually see the difference it makes, but I'd appreciate any input from those experienced with this.

If you think it's a good idea, would you charge per call forwarded, and based on the cost per lead, what would you charge?

I'd put in place some call tracking and charge them per call. Otherwise you've got no idea how many calls your site is generating them and therefore what is a reasonable amount to charge.

What industry are you in? PM me if you like.

It doesn't matter so much how many calls are generated. What matters first is how much this affects the amount of leads you generate. If you add the phone number and your leads stay the same anything extra you charge is increased profits. If you add the phone number and your leads increase, you hit the jackpot. (very possible). If you add the phone number and it decreases your lead volume by x% figure out what that is costing you and charge accordingly.

This could also affect the amount of emails you collect, which could reduce your list size and cause another way to lose value over time.

Shawnhag, my list is actually built up on another website, where applicants show interest, and they're then emailed and driven to website 2, which provides more information on the service and asks them to apply for a call back.
This ensures the email leads I pass on are great quality and convert high for the buyer.
So I don't need to worry about the initial list going down so much; but the end result of leads may go down.

I'll be getting a number up for me to track and taking the calls for a week so that I can see what sort of stuff is coming in. I particularly like CShoemaker's method to make up for any decrease, so thank you for that.

Yoyomango, depending on the quality of the calls that come in, if they're comparable to the email lead quality then call tracking is definitely a path to take.

Thanks for all your input guys.

If its a large corporation sometimes you have to wait until they do their marketing budget for the upcoming year, and sometimes this involves a marketing company contracted by them. Sometimes around the last quarter is when marketing budgets are drawn up for the next year.

Im in talks with a company now for banner placement and Im stuck until October 15th.

A smaller company may be the way to go until then.
